Backspacing Question

Can anyone advise me to the proper backspacing on 72' Chevy rear axle and 72' front disc? Thanks in Advance

leaf spring? all depends on diameter of wheels and how wide of wheel you go with.

It is a coil spring. I am not real keen on this process.....as you noticed. I have a set of 15" Rally Wheels that I will use at first, however I have been looking at various 18-22" wheels and noticed they all state what there backspacing is, just curious about rear tires. How wide can I go and stay "tucked" within the sheet metal? I will use a narrower tire on the front for handeling so not much of an issue there. Excuse my ignorance......and thanks for any help!!

I just bought wheels for Christmas... I wanted the same thing-- wide, but still tucked. I got 18x8s for the front with 4.5" backspace. For the rear 18x9.5 with 5" backspace. Notice that this gives me 1" more frontspace for the rears and puts all 4 the same distance inside the wheelwells. I'm using a '71 rear (for the 5-lug) and Early Classic drop spindles on my '69. Rearends earlier than '71 are a little narrower.

Thanks for the answer!!! I also have a 69' with a 72' five lug rearend and am in the process of installing the 72' disc up front. Drop Spindles and Lowered springs are in the near future. Thanks for the information.

i believe 3.5" backspace max on front on 16" and smaller wheels.the tierod end is in the way.
