I promised that I would post the pictures of my inherited '69 GMC, so here they are. Not the best shots yet. I don't think it's in too bad of shape considering it's history. This truck was bought brand new by my grandpa in 1969 with a camper. It has been through 6 kids, stolen, crashed, shot in, blown engine, blown rear end & hit a deer. All in about 80k miles. I'm really excited about the project, and I'm sure I'll have a ton of questions for everybody here. I'll start with one question. Based on the picture of the driver's front fender would a hit like that shift the radiator support? It seems like the hood doesn't quite sit snug with the passenger side fender.

Looks like a nice base to start on, and your dash meets PICKMUP's high GMC standards.

You have to keep the carpet tho. hehe

My plan for the truck would be to fix it up like Grandpa had it. I have a few typical rust spots in the rockers that need to be fixed, then I need to fix basically the entire driver's side. I'm pretty excited to get it back in the slightly modified...stock look. I do want to go with the same color scheme. I really have no idea where to start, but I'm thinking I would like to get it running (just a fuel line/bad gas/carburator issue). The last time it's been on the road was in '99 when I drove it for a few months.

It's great your gonna fix up grandpa's old ride. My grandpas 1 ton was WAY WAY too far gone to even think about resstoring (The cab was rusted out to almost the lower body line and about 60% of the floor was missing) the frame was shot (rust through) so I pirated all I could from the "custom" interior and put it in my '67

Some of the truck lives on!

As far as your front end, something is off. May want to crawl underneath and check for frame damage. Doesn't looke to be any damage to the bumper so there probably isn't any, but it's possible the core support has been pushed back slightly. It looks like the door is hitting the fender. That DS fender is definately toast. Be hard to fix those dents. Loosen up all the front end bolts (including core support) get a new fender on there and realign everything and it should be ok? A sledge hammer may be required

As far as the hood alignment, Open it and remove the striker. Then close it and make sure the rear gap is straight and even. If it is not, move the hood on the hinges to correct it. Then loosen the core support bolts to the frame to adjust the gaps on the sides. As 67chevyredneck said, you will probably be better off to replace the fender. I would replace it before you fix the alignment. When you remove the bent fender it may releive some of the pressure and be easier to align. Hope that helps some. Very nice truck. It means a lot when there is a story behind it. Good luck with fixing it up. The little experience I have had in this forum tells me you are in the right place for help.

Thats funny that you said shot in. My truck has a hole in the floor and I allways wondered what it was and my dad said its a shot gun hole because of the way it punctured the floor and the metal like bent out. There are alot of stories in all theses trucks your just lucky enough to know all them lol.

Bicentennial vintage floor mats! Sell 'em on ebay and use the cash to fix 'er up.

I am restoring/modifying my grandfather's truck that I inherited after his death in 1983. I would not consider selling the truck, and am going to a lot of trouble I would never do to "just another old truck". It means more to me than any one else. I am sure you probably feel the same.

Congratulations, on the decision to keep it in good condition. The more you do to it, the more improvements you will want to make. There are many here who will help you through all the challenges.
Enjoy the journey, that is at least half the fun.

It may have, but not bad enough that a few adjustments couln't fix. If there was any core support damage it would have to be hit harder than that, these are pretty solid old trucks. Worse case is that you have to loosen the 2 mounting nuts that hold it onto the frame and move it over just a bit. Could more than likely be adjusted right at the fender/core support area though.
