Originally bought truck in Jan of 99 for $200.00, been driving it ever since, got maybe $500.00 total in it over that time, including tires, battery, and used radiator. Was a Suburban, but the guy I got it from is the one who cut it up and put on the right fender and hood, I did the red doors and the light bar. I also have a 70 1/2 ton SWB cab and chassis (decoded the serial#) and also a 69 3/4 ton LWB cab and chassis. In process of working on the 70, going to put an all steel flatbed on it with stacks (I am a trucker ). The 69 I have other plans for, but that is another story.
Could this be the Avalanche prototype??? Last edited by bigdog69; 06-19-2004 at 09:23 PM. |

Re: Ugly Trucks
Theres another Suburban near me that was made into a 3 dr. Truck like that. He used the rear hatch as a rear window (it would open) and hauled the family and a horse trailer to horse shows all around KY during the late 70's- early 80's. he didn't want to sell it, hoping to one day redo it again. He was a old bodyman and had done it up pretty nice. His last project was a '41 Chevy Truck on a S-10 Frame. He died a couple years ago & I believe it is still setting out in the field behind the house. His son had a 71 Opel GT (looks like a mini vette) that is just setting as well, it had been the guys daughter's car in high school.

So, just out of curiosity! How tall would you say Hulk Hogan is?
Better yet, how tall are you?

Re: Ugly Trucks
I once met and shook hands with Ray Nitschke, former defensive lineman with the Green Bay Packers back in the 60s. I don't claim to have big hands, but when we shook hands all you could see was my thumb sticking out.

Look, someone wanted a wagonmaster.
That'd really be a wagonmaster conversion, done before the avalanche even came out IIRC on the dates. Wagonmaster came out from International in 1973. Internationals travelall (suburban was a copy of it) cut off like that behind the second row doors with the back of a pickup cab there (so the bulkhead looks like it's supposed to be there). Designed with hauling goose neck and fifth wheel trailers as one of the ideas. Neat trucks actually... As far as ugly trucks... I might be picking up an IH in two weeks that will be able to enter the running. If I heard the description correctly, about every body panel is a different color... |

Hey guys, thanx for the input. Just got home from a week in the hospital, (unexpected). By the way IH Travelall was copy of suburban which started production in 1928.

Re: Ugly Trucks
And I thought mine was ugly, lol. This picture was taken just after we took probably 6 different trucks and made this one.
It looks a little different now since the newer bed has been removed.
