Re: What are the difference in 67-72
The only thing that I know of is that the '67 frame does not have the dimple where the steering box is mounted.
The 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton frames are slightly different in the height of the rear cab mount on the frame and the 3/4 frame has extra bracing on the cross member where the trailing arms mount and usually the trailing arms are a little beefier. Danny Edit: No GMC frames are not the same in most cases because most GMCs had leaf springs instead of coil springs like the Chevys, but they can be made to work. Here are the pictures the first one is of the 67 frame with no dimple for the steering gear. The second one is of the 68-72 frames with the dimple. The third one is of the 1/2 ton rear cab mount. The fourth one is of the 3/4 ton rear cab mount. The fifth is of the 3/4 ton cross member with extra bracing. Hope this helps.

Re: What are the difference in 67-72
I recently discovered that the radiator core support frame mounts are different on the 67-68 and 69-72. The 67-68 is mounted a little higher on the frame.

Re: What are the difference in 67-72
67/68 frames have a different location for the e-brake cable.

Re: What are the difference in 67-72
I am not sure you meant "73 frame, but if you did it is possible but not real easy.
I met a guy once that put a '53 Chevy body an early '80's 4 by 4 frame. He did a good job, but said it took a while. Danny

Re: What are the difference in 67-72
Never heard about the 3/4 ton cab mount being higher. Why is that and how does it not affect alignment with the box? I must be missing something very simple.

Re: What are the difference in 67-72
I believe that the 3/4 2wd and all the 1/2 and 3/4 4x4s use the same rubber donut cab mounts. If you look at replacements from LMC etc. they list the sameones for 3/4 2wd and all 4x4s and the 1/2 2wd uses a different one. I looks to me like they are taller than the 1/2 2wd mounts. So to keep the cabs sitting in the same place in relation to the bed they had to move the frame brackets down.
Putting our cabs on newer 73 up frames can be done. I had a friend of mine do it. I think the front mounts are in the same place but the rear one on the 73s are inside the frame rails because of the gas tanks. A mount needs to be welded or bolted to the outside of the frame. If I remember right the frame sits alittle lower under the cabs on 73-87s so the frame mounts will sit alot higher on the frame.

Re: What are the difference in 67-72
Up here in Canada coils were stock across the board Chev and GMC. Leafs were optional. Longhorns were leaf only Chev or GMC Canada and US.
I don't think the 73 frame has the same wheel base. Longer I believe. It certainly won't have the correct front frame horn for bumper mounting.

Re: What are the difference in 67-72
73 - 87 takes a lotta work, nothing near a bolt on.
leafs weren't always base on GMC in the states either. |

Re: What are the difference in 67-72
I was told that the reason for the larger rubber bushings on the rear cab mounts for 3/4 ton and all 4X4's was to give more cushion and a smoother ride in the cab.
Sounds logical since the suspension on them were heavier duty than on 2 wd 1/2 tons. Danny

Re: What are the difference in 67-72
I personally have never seen a GMC with coil springs and have only seen 2 Chevys with leafs. I can't imagine there is/was alot of them cross ordered.

Re: What are the difference in 67-72
Being a production frame is the frame common between Chevy and GMC, i.e. drilled for both leafs and coils so changing would be easy enough? IIRC the front crossmembers lack only one or two holes when they are swapped. I will probably keep coils in the rear of my '67 for ease of dropping 4" and with the '73 front clip am shopping for dropped spindles at 2.5". Inputs? Comments? I am open to suggestions (be nice <grin>!!).
