call it what you want, but shes oem all the way!it had a 1968 model topper on it, and it had 1/2 foam carpet on the floor and they made pieces that go over the wheel tubs, hell of a nice job.plus it was garage kept PLUS..
IT WAS A ONE OWNER, 93 year old man had it, i bought it from the guy that bought the 93 year olds house and at closing he handed him the keys and said you get the truck too!!

Not sure if it was red oak (Mar-K site doesn't specify), but the stain color is Varathane Cabernet, follow by 5 coats of Spar

Here is mine. It is oak veneer plywood from the hardware store. Just placed strips on top of the wood. It turned out really nice and not that noticeable that it is not planks. And I only have about 115.00 bucks in the whole thing including stain and Helsman's spar varnish.

My friend removed a really old myrtle wood tree for his place on the south Oregon coast a couple of years ago. I'm hoping to get some of the lumber to have milled for mine. From the sample I saw, it is nicely figured and should be pretty unique..

Thank you for the compliments. Always appreciated! The color is called cherry. I bought it from my local home store. It is not a brand that I have seen at big chain stores. I bought it to use on our cabinets and I liked it so I used it on the truck.

The wood is a 4'x8' sheet of cabinet grade plywood. It has an oak veneer as the finish. This wood is usually used for making the face of cabinets. It had to be cut down just a bit on the width and the length. I don't remember the exact dimensions. It does not go under the side angle strips as the actual OEM wood. It fits just inside of the angle strips. I used spacers to make up the void where the wood should be under the angle strips.

I applied one heavy coat of stain and let it set for about twenty minutes, then I wiped of the excess very lightly. Then I applied three coats of Helsman's spar urethane. And yes I did sand in between coats with a DA sander with 180 grit paper. I laid the final coat of Helsman's on heavy and that is the final finish.

I also put two coats of the Helsmans on the underside and then I undercoated it with roll on bed liner coating for some extra protection from the road debris.

I went this way mainly for the cost. My truck sets outside all day in the summer as I drive it to work everyday, so this was cheap and actually pretty easy to do and if it last for three or four years it is very worth it. I hope this answers all the questions you had.

19GM71, the truck was always a short C20 flatbed, (that's the factory bed surround,) but I had to rebuild all of the wood when I got it. It was all rough sawn full dimension stock from a local mill. The sills are 2" thick, and the fences are more or less free-lance.
