Got a deal, but issues 1969 C20

ok. Found this on Craigslist. 1969 C20 looks clean. Kid says it was his grandpas bought new in 69. Grandpa died, kid wants 2000 for the truck, but has no title.
1st concern, truck is stolen?
2nd No way I can register it here in CA, so maybe I part it out?

What do you guys think?

i dont think itd be worth buyying the truck for 2k just to part it out. 500.00 yes but not 2 thousand. looks good though from the pics and i like the v covers and air filter set up

Need to sell that to a non-title state. Surely there is a registration there somewhere and whoever is power of attorney for the estate can sign a bill of sale. Looks straight and un-rusty. It would probably be worth the hassle if so. Don't cut that one up.

Nice looking truck. Buy it for 500, find a good clean cab with a title, swap on doors/interior and you now have a super cool C20. Kittens and puppies will cry if you cut that truck up.

Get somebody to run the VIN (and plates), find out if it is stolen.

If it ain't, you should be able to get a replacement title (with appropriate paperwork, etc.). Might take some legal work with the estate...but better than parting it out. The CA DMV has an online title replacement page, all you need is the current tag #, the VIN and zip code. That'll get you the cost to replace the title.

Is there something else (other than lack of title) that prevents registering it in CA?

After taking a second look at the grille it looks like it has been replaced with a GM repro sometime in its life.

In Washington if you are trying to register a truck without a title the Washington State Patrol will have to do a VIN search to ensure it's not stolen. If the search comes back negative (can take up to 6 months!), then you can apply for a clean title.

I registered a no title truck in CA with a bill of sale and law enforcement inspection. The CHP referred me to the county sheriffs office which did the inspection.

If it is truly his grandfathers truck, title can be recovered through the DMV. All it takes is the executor of the estate to file for a lost pink slip and title. Not that big of a deal

Washington State DOL FACTS!

• All owners listed on the title must release ownership in the vehicle. The owner(s) do so by signing the appropriate space(s) on the title. If the title is lost, an Affidavit of Loss/Release of Interest or Affidavit in Lieu of Title form must be completed and signed by all of the owners shown on the title record. The forms must be signed in the presence of a notary public and notarized by the notary, or signed in the presence of a vehicle licensing agent, at a vehicle licensing agent’s office, and certified by the agent. The Affidavit of Loss/Release of Interest form may be obtained from the Department of Licensing website at www.dol.wa.gov, under vehicle & vessel forms. The Affidavit in Lieu of Title may be obtained from any Department of Licensing office.

So i.e. you will need to find the original owners and have them sign the paperwork in front of a certified notary or DOL office. What if the original owners are dead or worse, do not agree and want the truck back from there A-WALL grandson???? That's a lot of cost having to travel to Washington!
I too was looking at this truck but it is just so not worth it.....especially when it is a regular 350ci truck that has water in the engine!!!!
