Power steering gear box ?'s

I read the faq and did some research on power steering gear boxes. The parts site I looked at shows 67-76 the same part #, 77-79 the same part #, and 80-87 the same part #. Does anyone know the difference from 76-77 change? I assume the 80 on up is the metric threads. What years are you guys using? Will all the years fit the frame the same? I am getting all the parts including hoses and pump so is their and better year gear box to get?

I am doing a crossmember change on a '70 C20 with parts from a '91 3/4t suburban. PS box bolted right to the frame. I am using the '91 front end set-up so it was all replaced with new except the centerlink. All that I could see that was physically different was the arm from the box to the centerlink, and possibly the diameter of the output shaft. The fittings in the top are all the same pipe thread, not sure right now if it is 3/8 or 1/4, but it is the same. Hope that helps. Also someone told me that the newer ps boxes were a turn faster, don't know for sure. Good luck.

Any year up to 87 will bolt right on. You are right about the metric threads. The best to use would be 73-76.

The thread pitch on the mounting ears from the '91 was a 7/16 coarse thread. The same thread as the crossmember to frame bolts, and the same as the stock '70 unit.
