Fuel tank and sender differences

Lmc lists different tanks for 73-81 and 81-86 trucks, does anybody know that makes them different? or is the sender that is used that makes them diffrent? and is it possible to use the later style on a older truck and visa versa?

It's probably a E.P.A. smog rule change that took effect.

Re: Fuel tank and sender differences

For the tank as said the inlet is different and for EFI trucks the tank has a pan in it under the sender/fuel pump. Sender hole in tank is all the same through the years.
I would stick with proper years unless your changing from carb to EFI or in-tank fuel pump.

Use OEM O-ring on any replacement Sender units...they actually fit
