original motor mount question

Bought rebuilt 283 for my 56 truck. It originally came with straight six, v8 trucks had the motor mounts that attached at front of engine/chassis and this is what I want to use to keep it looking original. Does my chassis already have provisions for these mounts making it a bolt it even though it came with a six?
Thanks for your help as usual guys

Re: original motor mount question

Holes are there but you will need to buy or fabricate the extension. You will also need to deal with the radiator, factory had metal that bolted to the rad support to put the rad closer to the fan, most use the original position and run a shroud.

Re: original motor mount question

Most of the specialty stores have a kit that has all the brackets & mounts. Classic Chevy Parts is one. As mister G says the holes are already there & the holes are on the front of the engine. It is not cheap but is a good complete package.

Re: original motor mount question

That works great if you are going to use the V8 truck bellhousing that mounts to the crossmember the same as the original six cylinder bellhousing did. It's not too great if you plan to change to a trans that uses a mount at the rear of the trans.

Re: original motor mount question

Mine uses the front mounts and trans/transfer case mount and I did not have any problems in 15 years of DD use on and off road. I kept the original bellhousing crossmember. You do need to add a restraint from the frame to the driver side of the engine to keep the rotation under control. Nice thing is it gets rid of the exhaust manifold/steering/side motor mount conflict. The stock v8 cast iron bell housings with the mounts are pretty easy to find and are on Ebay all the time.
