Coil Spring / Helper Spring Trailng Arms
Are the trailing arms different on the trucks equipped with the optional helper springs or is it a bolt on piece that helper springs hit on the trailing arms? Thanks.

Here is a picture that shows all of the parts for one side. This frame is either a SB frame or someone has cut the frame rails off. I'm betting they would be expensive to ship, they are heavy. LockDoc

Re: Coil Spring / Helper Spring Trailng Arms
Good question. Those in the picture Leon posted are different from those on my '69 3/4 ton in that mine are only a single leaf vs. what appears to be 3 in Leon's picture.

Re: Coil Spring / Helper Spring Trailng Arms
I don't have the picture at hand now I think it's in the assembly manual, it shows the multi leaf auxiliary spring and it's stamped discontinued, replaced by the single leaf auxiliary spring.
I've had the auxiliary spring units on both my half tons and 3/4 ton trucks and they are the same. There is a New Old stock single leaf auxiliary spring unit on eBay right now for $400 |

Re: Coil Spring / Helper Spring Trailng Arms
I have all the parts except for the pad on the end of the trailing arm. When I bought them, I didn't know about the pads.
Do you know if the pads are different on a 1/2 or 3/4 and are they specific year? Thanks for the picture, Leon.

Re: Coil Spring / Helper Spring Trailng Arms
I was trying to figure out why i had leaf springs and a coil in the rear of my truck and realized it was a "helper" spring. It looks like the pictures from others in this thread are mounted to the side of the frame...mine are mounted directly below the frame. Is this common for some setups?

That looks more like an aftermarket setup, like what JC Whitney or one of those companies sold. LockDoc

Re: Coil Spring / Helper Spring Trailng Arms
This seems easier if you don't already have the leaf type helpers.

Re: Coil Spring / Helper Spring Trailng Arms
If the Trailing arm is the same is there a metal plate that fits under the axle with that bumper attached?

Re: Coil Spring / Helper Spring Trailng Arms
My Dad had a 68 C10, it had the multi leaf helper spring setup on it. I had a 68 C-10 that may have have a helper spring added on to it. It looked just like the factory, EXCEPT the forward end of the spring contacted the top of the axle tube, instead of the plate/cushion, like posted here...
