Big Block/Small Block Motor Mounts ???
Are they the same or are they different parts? I'm actually changing frames and need to know if I need to take the mounts too. I'm referring to the mount and support.

I went thru this and for me it was a *****. My project is a '67. I got BB towers from Wes (a vendor on the board, but you can get them from your local GM dealer for probably less than the vendors) and the mounts were damn near $200 (thats the cushions that bolt to the block) I did get them from my GM dealer. and I have heard they have gone up more lately. This board was not terribly helpful on this particular aspect. Try to talk to guys who have actually done this if you know of any. The replies here are often vague and hear say. Sorry guys, who sometimes offer info, but that's the way it is. And if you get into the clamshell type mounts thats another whole issue. Good luck and maybe try other boards.

The 72 style Big Block Towers are not available from GM any more and haven't been for years. The 68-71 are readily available though. They are I believe $86.00 per side from GM, last time I checked, with the 3 piece motor mounts at about $127.00 per side. The 72 style motor mounts (clam shell) are one heck of a lot easier to use and are heck of a lot stronger, with the single piece motor mount it uses available at any parts store for about $12.00. So they make economic sence also. I have installed Big Blocks in 67 trucks with the 72 towers and once I made the alterations needed to the chasses, the engine went in like it was born there. I have also mounted Big Blocks on to the 68-71 towers and cussed them the whole way... That was almost as bad as installing a Big Block into my 4x4 Blazer. WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com

If I was installing a big block I would take a serious look at 73 up towers and mounts. They are similar in design to 72 mounts but are a dime a dozen at the bone yard. Couldn't be too hard to adapt.

I posted this
same pic on a post a couple days ago asking similiar questions. Here are the 72 stands and mounts sitting in a 71 frame. A hole will need to be drilled in the crossmember, but that is all.
