I know you posted a few days ago but I have done this myself. 2 1/8 in gauges fit into the bottom 4 holes without any work. The top 3 are the problem. If you are really patient and careful with a dremel you can make the holes larger yourself. I would use a 5 in hole saw and a drill press if I could re-do it. I would have to say that the best advise that I can give is buy one from covans classics or make a custom insert from scratch. I made one from diamond plate also.

I used Autometers and I didnt have to do anything to the top holes. The bottom I added 2 5/8 guages and I had to make them a little bigger. I practiced on a brand new bezel. I found a 3 3/8 inch clock that is black faced that would look good in the middle hole if anyone is interested.

Thanks for the insight garthdader. I guess when you use Auto Meters, you only use the top bezel only not the green or black tins?
Randy I'm assuming you used the dremel to shave away some plastic?. Can you post a pic of your clock?. I forgot you had that setup.

But you can still find the 3-3/8 oil pressure, oil temp, fuel pressure, and water temp.... in black face Pro-Comp, or even in the Pro-Comp Phantom.
Phantom p/n: 5829 for Oil Pressure & 5839 for Water temp Black p/n: 5507 for Water temp, 5502 for fuel pressure, 5510 & 5511 for oil temp (yes temp, not pressure)

Yes i used a dremel to make the bottom holes larger. Basically just trimmed all the chrome out of the hole. They fit good and snug.
As far as the black faced guages? I think u will be very lucky if you find them. The white faced (Phantom) you can still find. Someone found this clock that is sold by Moon that I think would look good in the middle hole. It is advertised as 3 3/8. |

Thanks Randy. That would look cool with orange hands on the clock to match the gauges.

Jim,
I think this may be the link you were looking for. It has vanished from the FAQ section, this is a cached page from google, unfortunate, all the pictures are gone. http://64.233.167.104/custom?q=cache...hl=en&ie=UTF-8 Hope this helps -Brandon |

Yeah, I agree. Excellent write up, and I like the look of the behind the bezel install the best.
I've been gathering parts for my try at this. The 3 3/8" gages are getting hard to find, I don't like the "phantom" series personally, so I'm going with procomp because I want them all to match. If you're having trouble finding 3 3/8" and want to go with the procomp series, I know Advance Auto parts still can get them. I just ordered a fuel gage, autometer #5514. Oil psi was p/n 5507, water temp was #5505 (if I remember correctly from Ron's writeup). Their web site shows the last two as 3 3/4", but I think that must be a typo. I ordered online http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductL...artnumber=5514 |
