New shop set up! (paint booth)

It feels so good to empty out your shop/garage and do a good cleaning and up grades. This week end I cleaned out over half my shop so I could get started on my temp. paint booth. My shop was built back in 1915 +- and was the carriage house for fixing buggy's and model A's back in the day. Now it is my 25'x45' fab shop and soon to be two story for fab work up stairs and vehical work down stairs. But for now it is all in one so I find my self always changing things around to better suit my needs at the time. I have a few customer build right now that will be needing paint work not to mention all of my own projects that need way more than paint.

What I did was removed all the old electrical that was mounted to the ceiling joists and then installed 1/2" plywood to a 16'x24' area in the center of the shop that will be the paint booth. I then primmed it and painted on two coats of a gloss white paint before hanging the 18 4' lights. I still need to build the side wall that will be perminent and close off my storage area from the main part of the shop. This wall will also house the intake air filters. I will have an exhaust fan in the far corner of the ceiling that will go out a roof window that is their. The other walls will be 10mil plastic that will be sealed off to the ceiling and floor. It should work out fairly well and also help keep the rest of the shop cleaner than it has been. Here are a few pics that I wanted to share. Keep in mind everything that is in the shop now is temporary untill the roof comes off for the second floor steel beams and new work area above. I welcome all thoughts and ideas!

As far as fire/explosion form the lights I am not concerned. For the fan it will be the explosion proof type ($$ ) but well worth it I feel. As far as air quality I do not do enough at this time and we are still zoned Ag. out here in Winters and I am only spraying the new water born paints and clears.

Dan I will be home all day (except 10-noon) Tuesday working out in the shop, just come on by.

looks really good Kevin! I'm jealous since I am stuck in a tiny apartment with no garage ! Need a roommate? Love the old bronco! I had a '71 bronco that was completely fiberglass with a built 302 that was turbocharged. That thing was a blast!

thats my dream, to some day have a house with a nice detached garage so i can build a workshop.

the "built in 1915" part is really awesome. i love old things, from radios, guitars, vehicles, and buildings too! we have an office in san fran that is in a historical part of town. we just finished moving out of it, and to me, its a shame to see that renovated building be sold off. just the fact that we were running a highly technological business out of an (however old it was) building, was really cool to me.

Thanks guys. Yes I just went out to see how the lights work at night so I can get the full affect. It is like day time without any shadows should work out great for paint and any other project I have going on.

Yes I am a very lucky guy to have this set up and I thank GOD for letting me for allowing me to be this lucky. I was in an apart ment for awhile then rented a house and when I could afford a small house I bought it and fixed it up a bit and four years later I doubled my money and bought this dump. Yes I said dump because that is what it was two years ago. We are the new kids on the block. Our house was built in 1928+- and the houses around us were built between 1875 and 1900. By 1928 they stopped using the shop for cars and buggys. When we bought it it looked real bad but I saw the potential in the house and the shop did not hurt. It has been alot of work with alot more to go. Here are a few pics of the house when we bought (4-1-05) it and now.

From the looks of it and the time it was built is it a Craftsman house? That is cool. I would like to do that someday find a rundown 1920-1930's Craftsman and rehab it and build a garage to it. I wonder if there is a place to search for them.
