Hey, couple questions about a '67 4x4...

I found a source that has a 1967 4x4 SWB Chevy with a 327 and 3 on the tree and he says that it is rare because it was never, in that combo, put in production and that it was actually a government truck at one time.

Is that true or are his facts actually not facts at all? And if it is true, how rare is this truck?

I'm not sure, and I'm not sure that he is, but most of them probably had the 4 speed with the granny, the predeccesor to the SM 465. Someone will chime in. Even if it is rare, rare and desireable are 2 different things.

It is rare, but they are certainly out there.
I once had a 66 Mustang with a bench seat. The bench seat was rare, but like Dan mentions rare and desireable are many times not one and the same.

I see. Thank you. What about it isn't desirable? Is it the 3-speed?

And assuming it's in just "ok" condition with fairly straight lines, little rust, and most of the parts are original, what would one expect to pay for something like that?

Here is a clip from the '67 truck data book, standard equipment for K10. Three speed was standard just not very desirable for a 4x4. Most people needing a 4x4 wanted the grunt of a low first gear, so 4 speeds were popular options. Military useage would possibly be indicated by the option content on the SPID label. Post a picture and I will be happy to see what is there for you.
Interesting note though is that the M20 four speed was N/A with the L30 327 engine option.

3spd transmission was the standard transmission,just like on 2wds. It's true with most 4wds,if they got only one option it was a 4spd. It is a draw back to most anyone and not a sought after combination,due to them been far weaker and gearing being inadequate for use as 4wd. Most people seem to migrate towards swapping to newer transmission/transfer case combinations even with a 4spd truck. So,unless you are wanting 100% original,you can find later 4spd/205 or automatic/205 (or newer) combos for cheap and swapping is a cinch.
By your description I'd say a truck like this around Austin would go fro $1,500-$2,500. If you had pictures or more details I'd be able to give a better idea. I'm picturing old and aged looking all original.

I got ya. Well I think ya'll definitely helped me make my mind up. I don't have any pics on this computer, and I think the link for the craigslist ad is too old so I can't find it now. But it doesn't matter anyways because the fella was pretty adamant about his $6,500 price on the truck and it definitely wasn't in the best of shape(no radio, seats torn, and no a/c). So needless to say, I don't think it's worth it. I just wanted confirmation that I wasn't missing out on something that was a couple times in a lifetime type of thing.

I love the clean look of the 67 with no reflectors and the small window, but I guess I may have to either give a little and look at '68-72's or wait for another 4x4 '67 to pop up.

Is it common/pretty straight forward to convert a 2wd to a 4wd?

Oh yeah, forgot to mention it has to be a short bed and a k-10. Other than that, that is a nice truck.
