Need help ASAP!! Tonight! Must get truck running!
Please help me! I have to have the truck running by 6:30 A.M., But I have to stop working on it within 1 hour (I have neighbors)
Bought a crappy j-yard dizzy that makes noise, but runs. Bought a new Procomp from ebay (at board suggestion) to remedy noise. Got the truck and dizzy dialed in, but the truck won't stay running!! I can get it to start and keep my foot on the gas and it will run, but the minute I let off it dies. If I turn the dizzy counterclockwise it won't start(sounds choppy and won't kick over) if I turn it clockwise it won't kick over (sounds like it wants to but won't. Right in between those two spots it will run as long as I have my foot on the gas and don't let off. Please help! Any suggestions would be appreciated! SHawn

First thing i would check, is to make sure it isn't 180 out.
it seems, no matter how careful i am i always end up backwards...

Make sure all of your connections are clean and tight and the vacuum signal is correct.

double check the firing order... #7 and #5 are real easy to cross, and it'll still run wired as so.

Re: Need help ASAP!! Tonight! Must get truck running!
did you run a "new" 12 volt switched wire to the HEI dizzy? i assume that you put HEI in if it's a new procomp? If you used the original points dizzy hot wire then it's a wire that only puts out 6 volts. Bypass it all together (cap it off) and run a new ignition hot 12 volt wire.

Re: Need help ASAP!! Tonight! Must get truck running!
All real good sugestions 18436572 and if it sounds good just not staying running just try and bump the idel up alittle till you can put a timing light on it. VERY small movements can change alot on timing so just a small amount will sometimes get ya there with out a timing light. OLD SCHOOL tighten down the dizzy so you can move it real hard by hand but not move when running and take a ride. Adjust every so often so it runs good on the road test.

Found It!!! It was a vacuum leak. The vacuum port on the back of the carb was leaking. The plug cracked and fell off and I didn't see it. I don't have a brake booster so It was plugged. Thanks for the help! Especially thanks to 67rs/ss for the phone support! You nailed it! Thanks for being persistent in making me look for the vacuum leak! Thanks for everything everyone!

Over looking the obviouse can bite you in the rear pretty majorly, and it's happened to me more than once... that's why i normally look to what was worked on last, along with a general looking over before jumping into something big.
