need help with brake caliper studs
yesterday i changed out the disk pads on my brakes. when i tried to put the caliper back, the studs went in about 3/4 of the way and then stopped. i compressed the caliper pison all the way aswell as the fittings that the studs go though. this is happening on both studs. what is causing this?

Re: need help with brake caliper studs
Try changing the 2 studs around. (you probably already tryed that)
Put them in the opposite hole and see what happens. You may need to use a tap to clean up the threads Last edited by LOW DOUGH; 10-16-2007 at 04:23 PM. |

Re: need help with brake caliper studs
If you can get the pads over the rotor and the caliper on the spindle then the bearings shouldn't make a difference.
Pads swapped? Do both pads have holes for the bolt? Is one hole bigger than the other? I don't have anything to look at so do you have a picture of what you are describing? |

Re: need help with brake caliper studs
i dont have a camera on me at the moment. yes, the pads have the same size holes and are identical to the old pads. i can see that the studs go straight through the caliper and pads, and and goes half way into the other side of the caliper with out threading it in. like i said, it can thread in about 3/4 of the way in and then it stops (its tough to get it past that and i dont want to strip anything). i cant see any obstructions.
