Wheel bearing "gasket"?

Hello guys. I have a ? about this paper gasket that is behind the disc brake sheild on a 1971/69 C-20. (the truck has stock disc. but the body is a 69).
Is this "gasket'" needed? Should i replace it?

I have never replaced them. Its not a seal as much as a dust blocker. They tend to look about like what you have when the seal fails. If you have a new one I would pop it in and if not don't let it stop you.

Re: Wheel bearing "gasket"?

It just funny that i have torn down 3/4 others the same yr or so and have never seen any thing behind the sheild. I think it is a dust blocker and i may just have to make one.
Thanks for the input.
