Single wall door window rubber Q?

For those of you with the single wall tops. I've noticed that the original door rubber had a metal piece of reinforcement with a screw and a T type press in retainer (I think you can see in the pic). The replacement rubber does not have any metal reinforcement in it from the feel of it. I'm wondering what others have done here in installing their new rubber. I'm wondering if that screw would do anything without that steel piece of reinforcement for a backup?

I'll try to get a pic of mine when I get home tonight. I replaced it two years ago.

Sorry; it took me a while to get to it.

It looks like the upper screw has pulled through, but the lower one is holding.
