The missing air cleaner cover speaks volumes to me. Just my opinion, but there is probably a lot of cobbled together crap that someone is going to have to go through and fix with that one. It going to be an onion with layer upon layer of frustration and expense most likely.

Judging by the stance and the look of the wheels in the wells I would guess that is not just an engine swap but a body swap.

Definitely a body swap or something. At first glance I thought maybe the underhood photo didn’t go with the first one. Firewall and layout under the hood is much later model.

I think the engine picture is showing the 4.3 engine still in the 97. That’s Definitely a gmt 400 engine bay. I think I would leave that 4.3 and associated parts there and look for a better engine setup. The 4.3 is a great engine but if you’ve got a clean slate like that truck is why sacrifice when you could easily put a V8 into it.
