What is the best sounding with out being overly Loud

mufflers to put on a 350 engine ,, with no cats ,,I am looking for a rumble sound and quiet enough not to wake up the neighbors when I crank it up

I used Magnaflow 10416 straight-through mufflers on my Blazer. I have a 350 running 9.5:1 compression with 2.5 rams horns into dual 2.5 stainless steel tubes. The Magnaflows have a sweet rumble without ever getting too loud.

I'll second the Magnaflow's with a cross over tube to tone them down a little more and improve the sound.

Neighbor and I both run 40 Series Flows, nice rumble at idle only loud if you nail it, loved driving thru the parking lot at work setting off alarms, might be too loud for what you're looking for.

I didn't mention it but I do have a crossover.

Boog, the Magnaflow mufflers have a pretty good reputation for not having a drone.

Re: What is the best sounding with out being overly Loud

Probably depends on the application I guess. I had a Magnaflo on my 2,000 GMC with dual tails. It droned so bad at highway speeds my wife refused to ride in it. I took it back to the shop and had them add a glass pack to it to make it more tolerable. That was my favorite truck too.

I'm a fan of the Dyno Max turbo mufflers. Also I'm a fan of running the exhaust all the way out to the bumper.

Fine line between sounding good and having an in cab drone. I really hate the drone. Usually at 1600 to 2200 rpm which just happens to be normal operating range for an automatic. Maybe take a trip to a local muffler shop for their recommendation.

I think just about any muffler dumped underneath it will have a cab drone not to mention every time you get off the asphalt it looks like a helicopter landing.

Out the rear takes care of the bigger part of it.

I'm running a big block with iron manifolds. 2.5'' each into a flowmaster Y to a single 3'' pipe with a dynomax muffler.

I have a pair of 40s on my 68 with its 327, its not bad at cruising but still has a great tone at idle. I do have a crossover pipe and long tube headers.

Not the cheapest, but I tend to like Flowmaster Delta 50 series (2.5 inch in my case). I agree run the pipes out the rear or at least out to the sides of the body. Dumps underneath tend to drone too much for me also. I also like the 18" cherryBombs, but they tend to be louder.

Re: What is the best sounding with out being overly Loud

Like the chambered Flowmaster sound myself. Have a single 3" 70 series "big block" with the cat on my 94. Pretty mild. People comment on the sound. Building my own exhaust on my project. Have two of the same mufflers to install on the 72 with an x-pipe. My engine is super charged. Muffler type is not going to really change power output. Will see how it sounds. Two cats inhand to install if to loud or if smell is offending.

I'm sorry, what was the question? I couldn't hear it.

I always like Hush Thrush.

They have probably changed them since I last bought a set.

Do they make glass packs anymore ,, you know ,the ones that we used to take a piece of rebar and jab out the insides some to make the sound we liked.. just maybe some of you are to young to even know about this ,, not downing any of you for yure age as the newer mufflers have more to offer and are better made.. and lots more to choose from ..

Yessir. I bought a pair of red glasspacks for my 69 a couple of years ago. I think I googled Walker and ordered from Summit if I remember right.

The trick I remember from my youth is getting the Cherry Bombs good and hot and then sticking the garden hose in the exhaust.
