help someone make up my mind????

I found a guy that wants to sell his 72 longbed fleetside for $3000, or trade for a 4cyl car
heres were i come in I have a 94 honda accord runs great no issues ...........
i dont think i could get $3000 for my car if i tried to sell it
gas prices are going crazy and this truck would have to be my daily driver.
what can i expect for milage with the 350/350 combo?

Ive got a 72 swb that im in the process of restoring but I'm starting to jones for a truck to drive.....
what do you guys think should i trade for it or keep the gas sipper and focus on finishing the swb.....

Re: help someone make up my mind????

all depends on how much you drive
You can expect 10 - 12 MPG on that sucker. ( http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=172346 )
Mine is not only my daily driver... but my only vehicle. 12 MPG does suck sometimes, but in my lifestyle... it's worth it for the best part. (can also be used for an excuse to not drive 50 miles to go visit your annoying inlaws that you don't wanna see anyways)

Re: help someone make up my mind????

As much as I think that truck looks great, I say keep the Accord and finish your swb. I drive a beat up 87 Accord and honestly I don't really notice the jump in fuel price costing me much more...and gas up here is NOT cheap.

Re: help someone make up my mind????

I really don't know if the only thing to look at here is the gas prices.

You said you don't think you could get 3000 out of your car.

SO how much of an up trade are we talking or is the truck really worth the 3000 in the first place?

In the pic's I would say it looks as though it does but how close did you look at it?

I guess what I'm trying to say is the difference in value of your car compared to the truck meaning you getting the better end of the bargin will pay the difference in the gas prices, maybe for a while. So you don't have to feel so bad for the rapeing at the pump.

Re: help someone make up my mind????

Keep the honda, a $3000 truck will need work and $ to be a good DD or it will leave you on the side of the road. You said the honda has no problems so keep it and enjoy working on your SWB because you want to, not on the LWB because you have to get to work in the morning.

Re: help someone make up my mind????

I say if your car is not worth nearly as much as the truck --- go for it!
If it is as good as the pics show I would think you could get 3000- 3500 out of it . Just drive it for a few months to get the feel for what it will be like when you finish yours. Then once the newness wears off sell it for 3-3500 and buy a 1k -2k daily driver and put the proceeds back into your builder to hurry it along

I hate to say it, but I think you should focus on the truck that you already own and keep that honda for a DD. Trust me, you will feel it in your wallet if you go from Honda gas milage to 350 Chevy gas milage.

Re: help someone make up my mind????

id trade in a heart beat..screw the gas milage..dont let the opec or oil company arse holes tell you what to do....drive what you want..but if you do trade, you cant really cry when you fill it up either...

Re: help someone make up my mind????

Finish the truck you have and drive the Honda until the wheels fall off. By that time you will either be done with the truck, or more motivated to finish it because your Honda is wheel less.

Re: help someone make up my mind????

i traded my cavalier for my gmc that i have now. couldnt wait till project was finshed to drive a truck, I feel ya.

Just be sure the truck is wrth what he's asking. I probably say by looking at the pic its between 1500 and 2000 personally, unless its already rust free

Re: help someone make up my mind????

it looks like about 5 say its a deal and 8 or so say no deal.........
I'm starting to lean towards keeping the honda.....
as bad as I want to have this truck I just cant justify giving up my dependible car but still up in the air
I went and looked at it tonite and it looks to be in very good shape and mostly original. there was a few tape lines and paint on inside of windshield rubber? and rubber bummpers behind glove box door had paint on them

and rust was to a minimum doors look to be in good shape, small hole in cab mounts but all original and looks to be unmolested floor. rockers and cab corners good very clean undernieth.. bed still had semi gloss paint looks like from factory. worst spots of rust were in the bed on pass side were it meets the floor up near the front but fixable specially for a driver. under the battery the inner fender and core support shot. the drip rails were rust but did not appear to be to bad.( i dug around with pocket knife and it felt solid)

body looks to be in very good shape for its age. i did not get to hear the engine run as the owner was not there, he just told me were it was and said to call him if i was interested. i took the wife and she was ready to go before i could get that far. I'm satisfied with the truck that if i had the extra cash id just buy it ....but i dont know if i can depend on it to get me to work each day......

Re: help someone make up my mind????

sorry forgot the pics........the last three are the bad spots but that is the worst of it. the tailgate is bowed and the latch hung up but fixable for a driver......i think i might need to go hear that motor run and see if he'll throw in some cash to make up the difference to get her road worthy....
