How long does it take for gas to go bad ? My '69 been down for about seven weeks . I'm waiting on a part . Should I add some Sta-bil . Thinking you add that while it's still running . THANKS in advance for any thoughts .

sta-bil says 30 days but my dad (he works on gas pumps so he knows quite a bit about gas) says it will last longer than that but it depends on the size tank, you could probably go three or four months with no problem

but sta-bil is cheap insurance for a carburetor rebuild

My Blazer sits in storage for 4 - 5 months every year. I just shut if off and disconnect the battery. In the spring I reconnect the battery and start the truck and go. I have never had any even remotely fuel related problem.

No worries in the winter months. Summer is a different story. In warm weather you'll lose the "light-ends" to evaporation.

(I recently retired from Shell Oil Company, where part of my job was quality control at a distribution terminal)

I keep gas in jerry cans w/Sta-Bil [2 Oz/5Gal] for almost a year. No problems.

Sealed metal cans hold the gas longer. I had about 10 gallons in my trucks tank for 2 years, I didn't want to run it in my new motor. So I drained it and it seemed fine, so I used it in my commuter with no problems.
My truck is garaged and is always cool inside, so that probably helped.

never had any real problems to speak of with gas 6-12months old// i think the whole stabil thing is bull for the most part

I recently fired up a truck with 3 year old gas. Ran fine. It took a little gas down the carb to prime it. Truck sat outside in KS for almost all of that time.

I use fuel stabilizer for peice of mind with my truck. I have a friend had an old caddy stationwagon sat for 5 years and it ran on that gas with out stabilizer in it...

depends on the quality of gas, and the climate your in i geuss... I know the snowmobiles have to be stored with it, they dont like the old gas in the fall, it tends to foul the plugs..

I pulled 8 year old gas out of a tank once, threw it out on the grass, and threw a match on it, the match was quenched by the old gas and went out

I've seen a bug that was parked for 10 years fire up on the 1/2 tank of fuel with sta-bil in it that was there when it was parked.
I've seen 12 month old gas with no treatments at all not let an engine fire.
