Now what - Tires/Rims or Pro-Charger?

This may be a first- I just finished my truck on time and under budjet from a frame off build. Completly baffled in this situation- I find myself having some money left over and dont know which to get. The truck has 17" Boyds with brand new drag radials on the back and some decent tires upfront. I have had these wheels since 1999- Kinda tired of them but they dont look too bad on the truck.

The 7.4l Vortec with the 4l80e runs strong, I can tell its gonna pull my boat/drag car just fine but it dont have that throw you back in the seat feeling. The PCM has a Performance tune on it that requires super unleaded gas in it at all times so I dont think that theres much left in the motor as far as tuning. I have a Avalanche truck that I bought used that came with a Procharger already on it and it really runs good, killed the transmission and rearend already.

I have found a really good deal on both the Pro-charger and a set of 20" tires/wheels that like- but I cant afford both right now. Which should I get?

Well, it looks really tough with the wheel/tire combo now, so I say go with the ProCharger!

Re: Now what - Tires/Rims or Pro-Charger?

Just in case your still not sure which one to get,.....the Pro Charger is the clear winner. Also instead of rims and tires, maybe new rear tires to handle all the tire smoking your going to do when you install the Pro Charger.

I forgot to ask, what rearend gears are you running? Just curious.

Re: Now what - Tires/Rims or Pro-Charger?

Both....buy the procharger with your extra $$$. Puth the 20's on your credit card. Sell your current wheels as a down payment on the credit card.......

There is a guy local to me that has a set of brand new- never mounted 22" Foose Nitrous (5x5) rims with brand new tires he is asking $3500.00 OBO. Said it cost over $5000.00 with shipping for the package. Real tough choice as Im not going to be racing this truck, I think its going to have plently of power for everything I need it for. In my dream world - I would like to go to the lake more and take the drag car out to the track.... Maybe a road trip or two.... Do I really need a ProCharger for that???? YES!!! well maybe- I been thinking about this constantly for the past few days. Cant seem to make up my mind..

for 3500, it would have to be a sweet set of billet wheels, so now my vote goes to pro-charger

Re: Now what - Tires/Rims or Pro-Charger?

The procharger seems to be the winning item, however I just dont want to start replacing stuff like I did on my Avalanche.

I guess Im going to but the procharger...

I figured that it was going to $12k-15k to rebuild my truck, I did everything for less than 10k including the price of the truck. Getting great deals on Craigslist and Ebay really saved me alot of money......

Re: Now what - Tires/Rims or Pro-Charger?

first off the truck looks great. Sweet engine swap I am looking at doing the ls type motor on my next project but it scares me.

Wheels on it look great as well. I say keep rolling on what you got and play with the forced induction. Deals on wheels will always be around.

The Procharger is a D-1SC with all the mount and intercooler for the 7.4L. The unit itself is brand new, everything else is used. This guy put it on his 1998 1 ton rollback wrecker truck. Within the first 500 miles it developed a oil leak. He sent it back to Procharger and they sent him a new one. Instead of putting it back on he took everything off and sold the roll back wrecker. He said his motor had close to 250k miles and it just wasnt worth putting it on the old motor. He ended up getting a new truck with a Duramax so he couldnt use it no more. He wants $3000.00 for everything, he said I might need to get 1 more coupler because 1 got a little messed up taking it off.

It looks like this:

So its basicly a brand new set of 22" Foose Nitrous rims and tires or the Procharger.
I have a deal with the wife that I wont ever charge anything on my credit cards for my toys. Im debt free and wanna keep it that way, I believe if I dont have the money to pay for my toys - I dont need it, I may want it- but dont have to have it.

Since both deals are for sale by local people they are cash and carry. And honestly laying out $6000.00 more on this truck right now after I just spent $10k in the past 10 or so months dont really make me feel comfortable.....

Part of me feels - Hey you got a great running fuel injected big block and you got these old small 17" wheels that I have had forever... BUT I got a brand new set of drag radials on the back. AND a Procharger under the hood would be completly killer to have. It would really put me in the power range that I would like to have....Im going to sleep on it-----
