Time to stop snooping around....

Hey All. Been hanging around here awile reading all the info and checking out some builds. Thought I should try this posting and intro thing out. Back in Sept., I think it was. I went up to MO., outside the springfield area, Where I'm originally from and where my family still lives and farms and picked up my uncles '64 C30. He bought the truck back in '69-'70 and has been in the family every since. It's the first truck that most of my cousins and myself ever drove, haulin hay and working around the farm. It's been sitting behind the barn since '90-91 when the clutch gave out on it. At a family reunion in Aug. I told them I was coming to get it, didn't want to see it set back there and rot anymore. The truck is in really good shape for being an old farm truck. It has two small holes in drivers floor, cab mounts are solid except one back one on pass. side. I'll give this pic. thing a try, but I ain't making no promises. May have to get the wife to show me how. Never been good at this internet pic stuff.

One more and I'm done. I promise. I'm just excited I posted pics. I've tried this on other forums and not any kind of success.
One big reason I wanted it. He loves being outside and in the shop messing around.

Re: Time to stop snooping around....

Thanks yall. I have noticed that everyone seems to want to really help with questions no matter the skill level on this forum.
My plans right now are, try to enjoy it for a little while with the family, especially through the summer and then see what happens. I want to go back pretty much as original as possible I think. Even down to the style of bed that was on it. I did get it runnng first to make sure the old 230 still sounded good. The truck only has 80,000 miles on it. I ran all new brake lines and brake hardware. (Finding the rear shoes was a chore) I had trouble even finding anyone that relines shoes anymore. I ended up finding them on my new favorite parts site for $8.50. (Rockauto) Found all the brake stuff on there really cheap. (pretty much all raybestos and wagnor parts also). Anyway, got a new clutch in and took it down the road for the first time this weekend. Now to find some wheels and tires and find me some lumber for the bed and drive the heck out of it for a little bit.
I did already have the seat recovered and bought one of those junk vinyl mats. (not real happy I cant find an original replacement rubber mat)

But anyway, Thanks again yall and I'll stop rambling on now

Oh, and I put a new fuel tank and sending unit in it as well.

Re: Time to stop snooping around....

Welcome to the forum! Very cool truck and story. Glad to see you moving along so quickly. A couple of quick suggestions - tale pictures at every step, especially now. It really sucks when you look back years from now and realize you have almost no "before" pictures. Also, in the beginning try to limit your projects to what you do in a day or two (like over a weekend). Keeping the truck running and one piece is a way to keep enthusiasm high. A pile of parts is easy to lose interest in.

Re: Time to stop snooping around....

Thanks. That's exactly how I went into this. Different attitude and prospective then my other projects. One thing at a time. Actually I read that on here I believe. But, I did only fuel tank and getting it running. Then brakes completely. I dont want a bunch of stuff tore apart at once right now. I do have a lot of pics already. Just didnt want to burn up a lot of space and yalls time looking at a ton of pics. And like I said, not an expert at that yet anyway. Like that one thats sideways, I mean what the heck. No matter what I did it came out that way. tried rotating it on phone and all.

Re: Time to stop snooping around....

Here's the seat. I wanted it original, but couldn't find anyone who had material like it without spending a small fortune right now. So went this route for now and kept the original cover in hopes of one day finding someone that can do it. I got this done for $225 and happy with it for now.

Welcome to the forum

That's great that you have a truck that has been in the family so long. I'm anxious to see some more recent pics.

As for posting more than one pic, you just have to keep uploading them before you submit the reply. I believe you can upload 3-5 pics, depending on their size.

Re: Time to stop snooping around....

Love your truck, love the back story. I grew up with that kind of truck hauling hay and anything else the farm required. Glad you got it running so quickly. I live in Collierville - just south of the high school. At some point I would love to see the truck in person. I'm building a 1955 pickup and this website has been a great resource.

Re: Time to stop snooping around....

Thanks for all the welcomes.

Captainfab, Thanks I'll give it another shot on the multi pic per post and see what happens. I tried it once and every time I went to upload the next pic it did away with the first one. But, probably just wasn't holding my mouth right.

64Chevytruck, I was kinda shocked myself when I went to pick the truck up and popped the hood and saw the 230 sitting in there. Of course i hadn't seen the truck in a long time and didn't remember that.

MikeS, Thats great. Maybe get to meet up one day. Where I live in Collierville is connected to Germantown, Didn't know if you had been through this part or not.

bj383ss, My son just turned 3 on March 10th and he's not like most kids. Well kids I know anyway. He wants to be under, in, or climbing around on the truck with tools and any other truck or car I might be working on. Hope it continues.

Just to let y'all know. I have been hooked on this forum for a wile now. I check it every chance I get for new info or check up on the builds. It really does seem to be one of the better forums on the internet.
