I searched, but couldn't find an answer, mostly because people abbreviate Air Conditioning many ways.

My truck has AC, but I have no use for it. I'd rather just have hot air come out the vents in the winter. Summer is made for cruising with the windows down!!

Can I remove that hideous black shell on the firewall, and replace it with a heater only box? I no longer have the compressor and don't feel like messing with AC at all. If someone has any ideas, I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

the boxes are different as well as the hole in the firewall for an AC versus a heat only box

It's kinda one of those "all or nothing" deals. Unless you want to weld the firwall section from a non-A/C truck into your A/C truck.

Personally, I'd make a custom delete panel and just roll w/o it until Winter came around, then reinstall the box. It's an awful lot of work though.

If all you want is heat, then you could do away with the factory heat & air all together. Then get an aftermarket heater. Summit and Jeg's both sell one for about $150. Then all you need is the heater hoses run thru the firewall and mount the control. Of course, you would have to fill the huge holes in the firewall too.

I did away with all the factory stuff in my truck too, but being in Tx I replaced it with an aftermarket heat and air system. I found it truly amazing that the factory needed all those peices and parts when the aftermarket system was a nice compact self-contained unit that fits so neatly behind the dash.

Not to step on any toes but my experience with the above web site has left me with "get me once shame on you, get me twice shame on me" I purchased a set of trailing arm bushings on Feb 2nd and paid immediately with PP and to date have not recieved my item. Needless to say I wont do biz with them again. You might contact some of the A?C vendors and see if you can purchase just the block offs for the factory holes on the firewall.

Get a picture of a non A/C truck fire wall. Close off the A/C vents then recut the heater opening. I did the same thing in reverse for A/C. Then just use a regular heater box under the hood.

Thanks, I would never pay 150 for a 50 dollar part from them. Pretty good Idea of what they are like from their prices & now their business practices.

I have the same problem. I have an a/c truck and the compressor has been removed. I will never use the a/c. I am thinking of removing the rest of the lines, and getting rid of the vacuum pull off thingy on the passenger side kick panel. Then just rig up a standard fresh air vent like the drivers side. With the wing window cracked and those air vents open, it really cools off the truck nicely. If you are moving that is.

One thot on the vacuum pass side vent, you could rig up switch like the one on your A/C controller (I think) anyway a switch and you could control from driving position.
