Hey (Intro-ish)

Hey my name's Brent, I'm 16, car freak since born, been toying on them for forever now, I did all the work on my dad's 05 F-250, which is just a 4.5" lift, Chip install with monitor, air intake, and a 4" turbo back exhaust (I'll show some pics)

Now for me, I have a 1972 Chevy C-10 LWB with the original 350 (rebuilt) that I purchased September for $4,500 shipped to NC from TX. The 350 and the tranny only have about 1000 miles since the rebuild. There's a custom dual side exhaust, and the tailgate was shaved and the gas tanks was mounted in the bed. What you see in the pics is what I paid for, right now I'm redoing all the wiring and then I have to change the timing cover, cause it's leaking something. I'm also looking at buying a 383 kit which I don't know how good it is, so I'll need your opinions on it. After all that I'm gonna get to the pretty things, I have to recover the seats, so I found a cover on Brothers.com which I really like. Then I want to get it level to have a muscle look, I think a 4" lower in the rear will be way too much, so whatever you guys think and how much lower i need the front to make that level, so your opinions will be appreciated on that. Then I have a new stereo system coming in, and any direction on how to get a modern head unit in would be nice, I found the headliner with the speakers in it real nice, so I'm gonna buy that and 2 10" subs would be nice for me, along with the dash speaker. Then I'll be near done, hopefully I can get a cowl induction hood, cause I'm going for a muscle look. Since the pics were taken all I've done is just started re-wiring it, new brake cylinder, new Holley carb, and a new fuel pump & filter. new K&N 14x4" air intake, Any recommendations will be appreciated A LOT cause I'm new to the older car scene. Here's the link to the ebay auction for that 383 kit, tell me if you guys think it's any good

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...5059921&rd=1,1

Any suggestions on the lowering part would be great (and pics would be even better!)

And tips on hooking up a sound system would be great too.

Thanks,

Brent

Welcome from Austin Texas!!!!!!!
Nice truck. I got my first '68 at 17 years old. Put a BBC/396 and have been jacking with these trucks ever since then(20 years).

Good luck and keep us posted on your progress.

Nice trucks ( the ford too). The stroker kit looks to have all the good parts, I would ask him if the crank is new, and if all the other parts are new first runs( I think thats what they call it) , basickly not factory blems. If all is good go for it, it looks like his only negitive feed back have been shipping delays.

The thing that sucks about feedback is that most people (I'm guilty of this too) will leave a positive before the parts are intalled (if they get the stuff in reasonable time and it looks complete.)

Re: Hey (Intro-ish)

Howdy, from Houston.
A couple of things, the stroker kit your looking at will require machine work of your block. A friend of mine does it for about $300.00 to $400.00 depending on any other alterations that may be asked for. Even thought your getting new valve springs, retainers and keepers, you'll probably want to go ahead and have the valves redone also. Even though it's only got 1,000 miles on the rebuild, you don't know the workmanship of the last rebuild and if I was pumping a grand into the lower end, I'd make sure the top end was good too.
Check out the Tech articals here http://www.chevymania.com/.
A lot of guys go with a 4/6 drop. 4" in the front and 6" in the rear, theres a whole lot of pictures with stances in this forum go read the Welcome area to see how everything works on this site and the if you want post a couple of pics in the photoshop and ask nicely for some one to drop it and add a the cowl induction hood on it so you can see what it will look like. Also the FAQ will probably have the answer to any questions you may have. But one of the great things about this site is, ask a question anyway and you either get an explanation or a link to something in the FAQ and YOU DONT GET RAZZED for it like on some other sites. The people here are the absolute best.
Stereos, same as above. Check out the FAQs look throught the forums ask questions. A lot of guys are putting the newer head units in their dashes with a remote. That way you don't cut up your dash.
You asked a lot of questions, just do a lot of research BEFORE you do anything, talk it over with your Dad (sounds like he's pretty knowledgable), check out the vendors on this site, they are all great and welcome to the great and wonderful world of the best trucks ever manufactured with American steel.

Re: Hey (Intro-ish)

let me get this straight, the headliner your looking at getting is made for 2 10" subs? is that free air or does it have some kind of cabinet? I wouldnt count on them sounding too good if they are free air.

...correction they wont make any sound other than flop flop POP, they need pressure to make sound.

Hahaha no it has 4 10W speakers in it.

I'm trying to find a box that I can put behind the seat for 2 10's.

Re: Hey (Intro-ish)

good lookin truck, on your head unit build a console and put it underneath your dash ontop of the tranny hump, or in the glovebox. Ive seen pictures of it done on here and it looks real nice, but whatever you do, Dont Cut the Dash!

What I'm thinking of doing is getting one of the vintage ones that fit right in with 50x4 and an AUX port so I can just hook an iPod up to it.

Re: Hey (Intro-ish)

Great looking trucks!

If you don't want a major drop you can use ECE 2.5" drop spindles in the front and either 3" or 4" springs in the rear.

I have no clue on the 383 stuff

I find it odd the previous owner mounted the mirrors on the cowl, they are typically (and from the factory) mounted on the doors below the wing window.

Sign in, Click on the Forums tab on the left side of the screen. The First section in the forums is General Site Related. Second section down is FAQ. Click on that and happy hunting. When using the search remember you get what you ask for so the less information you type in the shorter the lists. It will return Posts that have every SINGLE word typed in.

Okay, first thing is first. Take the bed off, cut the frame down to swb status, buy two new boxsides from goodmark, repaint and reinstall bed and shorten driveshaft and breaklines and such. LOL!! Just poking on you. Nice truck.
