c-notch for ECE's adjustable pan hard bar

Gonna work on the "driver" again soon and got a few things I want to do first.

What C-notch works ECE's bar with out any mods to the C-notch. I know most are designed for the standard Pan Hard bar.

I couldn't find a C-notch on ECE's website ... does anyone know if they make one?

Thanks

I used the CPP c-notch and 1 1/2 blocks with the ECE track bar on my 69 Burb and didn't have any clearance problems.

Re: c-notch for ECE's adjustable pan hard bar

I'm also using CPP's c-notch. They had an ad in Classic Trucks a few months back and had it advertised for 99 bucks so I jumped on it. I'm using ECE's super panhard bar with 1-1/2" blocks and no issues. I just got my 2" blocks tonight so will be installing them Saturday.

Re: c-notch for ECE's adjustable pan hard bar

What size drop springs you got with those blocks guys? OR ... are you runnin' bags too?

The reason I ask, is I got bags and I have read (i think it was XXL) that someone had to modify their C-notch because once the bags are dumped, the pan hard interferes with the original style CPP notch.

I don't know if I am imagining this or what ... but I thought I read where CPP had redesigned the notch on the passenger side to clear the adjustable pan hard bar ... can anyone verify this or am I off my rocker?

thanks fellers

Re: c-notch for ECE's adjustable pan hard bar

I have seen a couple guys on here move their track bar bracket to the inside of the trailing arm. I think some of them were running blocks and built a bracket on the side of the block. ECE doesn't sell a notch because they claim you wont bottom out with their springs and they dont really push their rear bag setup. They also claim if you are low enough to need a notch you are more than likely going to hit the bed floor with the diff. Air Ride Technologies www.ridetech.com has a bolt in notch as part of their kit but I don't know if they will sell it seperate.

Yes, I had to mod my old ECE bolt-in notch (BTW, I sent a spec drawing to CPP almost 7 years ago, suggesting the necessary mod... they blew me off), and no, you're not imagining... I saw/read it too. Now, to find it again...

That is my preferred method. Since I have to purchase a C-notch, I would rather verify beforehand that the new style does indeed work with no mods.

The less I have to modify the happier I am because everything is already painted under there and if I start welding then I have to repaint ... and unfortunately I don't have that "luxury" anymore as my truck is now "homeless" and I have to get it rolling.

If anyone can confirm this, please let me know.

Re: c-notch for ECE's adjustable pan hard bar

I put the bracket that mounts the panhard bar to the trailing arm below the lowering blocks. I think this is where I gained the clearance. If you mount that bracket on top of the block, it probably will interfere with the c-notch.

Re: c-notch for ECE's adjustable pan hard bar

That's what I did.

Yes, my diff just barely hits the bed floor and one of the cross braces at full dump w/ the 1-1/2 blocks. I can just barely see it move when I air out. I got my 2" blocks yesterday and will be installing them saturday, so when I do that I will notch the bed for the pumpkin. It's only metal....

Have you thought about trying to shave the top of the diff? It's pretty common for the hardcore 4x4 guys to shave the bottom of diffs for extra clearance. Some of these guys manage to get quite a bit off of them. Some just grind the extra casting and cover down, and some cut into the housing and then go back and weld a thinner plate over the hole they have cut. I know it sounds crazy but these guys have been doing it for a while. If all you need is minimal clearance it might be worth checking it out.

Re: c-notch for ECE's adjustable pan hard bar

CPP has modified their adjustable panhard bar *edit* Deluxe Trac Bar Kit (thanks jimmydean)*/edit* to work with the c-notch. The bracket for the passenger side is now a bolt-in that functions pretty much like Slammed67's mod. They're on sale right now too. Take a look:

Just to avoid any confusion on which one to buy.

Re: c-notch for ECE's adjustable pan hard bar

Make sure you get the:
1963-72 Chevy Truck - Deluxe Trac Bar Kits

NOT the "Adjustable pan hard bar". The deluxe trac bar is the same type of setup as ECE's "Super Track Bar" built for lower than 4".

I got the CPP notches and Deluxe Trac when I ordered my drop spindle disc kit. Should be here in a few days.

Re: c-notch for ECE's adjustable pan hard bar

Make a bracket similar to CCP's?
See if you can purchase just the bracket needed?
Buy the CCP kit & duplicate the necessary bracket for yourself & re-sell the CPP kit on e-bay?

Re: c-notch for ECE's adjustable pan hard bar

I sent an email to CPP and here is the response I got, which is very surprising to me considering all the stuff I have read.

Here is my email to them.

Quote:
I am interested in buying one of your C Notch kits for the 1963-72 Chevy truck, but have a question.

I am using the Early Classics Enterprises adjustable Pan Hard bar and wanted to know if I will run into interference issues using the two together. I ask because a friend of mine claims he used your C Notch and the ECE Pan Hard bar and he had to do some modifications to both in order to get the needed clearance.

Many Thanks and I look forward to your reply.

Shane
Here is their response.

Both items are designed for lowered trucks. There are no interference issues that I'm aware of. Thanks for your inquiry.

So does it only hit on a bagged truck?

Re: c-notch for ECE's adjustable pan hard bar

As far as I know, it only hits on a bagged truck. Using lowering blocks to raise the axle allows the axle to rest on the bumpstop in the c-notch before the panhard mount hits the frame. The other fix is to move the panhard bracket to the inside of the passenger trailing arm.

Shane, if you don't want to run lowering blocks or fab a new mount you're going to have the interference problem with the ECE bar. I would post your ECE bar in the classifieds or eBay and buy the Deluxe Trac Bar. That's the easiest, cleanest way to fix the problem... at least in my mind.

The correct description of this is that it only hits on trucks that are sufficiently low. In most cases, this is a bagged truck, since that's how people tend to get that low.
