Re: lift cab off frame
Do a search for a Cab/bed lift.Someone on this forum has posted a how to on making a jig to do this with a cherry picker engine hoist.Quite a few members have used it.

Re: lift cab off frame
We just did this, three times. Three guys, one on each side near the rear and one in front.

Re: lift cab off frame
I made one out of a 4x4 and some 2x6. It works fine and was free.

Re: lift cab off frame
Yep. Cherry picker works great.
If you still have the glass in or other stuff it will be very front heavy. You'll need to strap (orange one in my pictureit so it would roll forward. You probably should even have enough lift with yours being a 4x4 (I assume anyways), but you may want to take tiers off and drop it low on jack stands. I used what I had. Couple 2x4s tie straps, towels and duct tape. It held up great and worked smooth as silk for a 1 man job.

Re: lift cab off frame
4 of us lifted my cab, and it was gutted....no glass or doors.
As for lifting it with the glass still in it....the weight bias is toward the firewall, so you gotta compensate. Pay attention to the pix of the cherry picker and the placement. That was right.

Re: lift cab off frame
I just put a strap through the cab, hooked my cherry picker up above the cab and lifted it off, rolled the cherry picker out and set it down, the doors and everything was removed before I did it too. it was really easy, just steady it with your hand when you get it lifted off. Oh and I removed the wheels and tires and had it on jack stands.

Re: lift cab off frame
I jacked up my frame, made a jig the bolted to the door hinge area and doors striker plate. I then let the frame down and rolled it out from under the cab. I can now roll the cab around. I belive thre is a pic in my post.

Re: lift cab off frame
A couple 2x6s and some 2x4 scraps. copied a design from others here but use 2x6 for overkill. 1 lag bolt to tie the upper together and 1 bolt through the lower extension through the hoist eye (remove the chain). Used a ratchet strap to tie the rig to my engine hoist so I wouldn't have to worry about balancing it. I can get you some measurements if you want. All by myself

Re: lift cab off frame
on my truck, me and my brother in law hooked ratchet straps to each corner of the bottom of the cab, put the straps over our shoulders and lifted it off. then my dad pushed the frame out from underneath and we set the cab on sawhorses

Re: lift cab off frame
I used eye bolts screwed into the bolt holes for the fenders and bolt holes for the gas tank, then attached 3 ratchet straps that I hung from the rafters in my garage and lifted at each strap a little at a time.

Re: lift cab off frame
I made a bracket to fit on my picker that holds a 4x4. I can pick it up and move it around easily. I also made one of those cab /bed lifts for my lift but sold it when I was done with a cab move on a project. Both work well.

Re: lift cab off frame
Man there are some other good methods too, I like that eye bolts method from itsRandy. Nice!
Here are some measurements of mine. Note the ** on the left. I had to turn the end 2x6 to clear the hoist as you can see in the second pic above. Also I used a variety of 3 and 4" wood screws depending on how many 2xs I was screwing through. I predrilled all screw holes so the wood would not split. If you have any Qs just let me know. another note if you move the hoist eye position away from you it will move the center of gravity toward you so the cab will tilt toward you as opposed to away from you. Still I used the strap to make sure it didn't tilt away and slip or fall. EDIT: for some reason the long 2x6 dimension is fuzzy. it is 68" 2x6

Re: lift cab off frame
I used chains thru the cab mounting holes and seat belt holes.
