Serpentine Setup
Ive seen a few trucks on here with a late model serpentine belt setup and also aftermarket billet set up and was wandering if some had it if they would post pics of theirs and list what type it was and how well it works. I am wanting one to hook my air and ps up to.
Thanks |

Re: Serpentine Setup
Heres some good reading:
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=233335 I used a serpentine setup from a '94 chevy suburban, the truck is the same as well. you can see pics of it in my build thread. Good Luck!

Re: Serpentine Setup
I had mine given to me by my Dad. I came off of a 1995 Chevy 1500 and works great. I just had to buy the water pump (reverse rotation). I also included my cheap fan setup using fans from a Ford Taurus (Ford, I know) and some sheet metal for the shroud. The Taurus fans are cheap and plentiful.

Re: Serpentine Setup
Why did I post pics after big_al_71, mine really looks like a bag of ass! I will have to hit it with a few cans of spray paint. It really does work though.

Re: Serpentine Setup
We converted my Dads 76 over to a serpentine setup off of a 92. I think hardest part on it was getting the A/C lines and stuff switched around to fit.

Re: Serpentine Setup
What do you get the reverse water pump off of?
I can't remember for sure what year I have, but I have the driver side of a serp setup with the power steering pump. I think it is from a 99 truck. It was my buddy's truck. He rolled it a long time ago. Last edited by LOW DOUGH; 12-10-2009 at 06:19 PM. |

Re: Serpentine Setup
For my water pump I just told the computer jockeys at advance auto that it was for a 1995 chevy 1500 with a 5.7. Then I had to tell them tire size, trans type, if it had disc brakes, etc...etc...etc.

Re: Serpentine Setup
If you have that sorta cash they sure do look nice agreed. Mine came off a 93 Chevy 5.7. Removed the upper tension pully and had it powder coated with silver. Since I wasn't installing A/C I used a A/C delete pulley. And added twin Virgo Fans. Don't forget to get the upper and lower rad hoses. Especially the upper hose, in my case it was a bit longer over stock to reach the radiator. For the power steering pump swap your fitting out with your old pump fitting and that will save you from getting new line.

Re: Serpentine Setup
I have seen two styles even on the 5.7 L engines. One is a two piece made of a cast. These are most common. The one I used was a one piece metal. The only draw back to the one piece is that to remove it requires removal of the water pump at it sits behind the water pump.

I am thinking of using a set up off a 97 Vortec truck for my 72, even though the alt. is on the pass side and AC compressor is on the driver side unlike original, as the compressor is the more efficient Delphi Last edited by WIDESIDE72; 12-11-2009 at 10:32 AM. |

Re: Serpentine Setup
I pulled all of this off a '94 S10 Blazer with the 4.3L engine. Everything bolts on and lines up but there is one hole missing on the pass. side head, if you are using pre '88 head (IIRV).
I figured out where I needed the hole, made a jig, drilled and tapped it. Worked perfect. Now I just need to finish cleaning all the brackets and engine up. I also order a A/C delete pulley since I won't have A/C right away. It replaced the A/C compressor with an idler pulley.

Re: Serpentine Setup
I guess I fail to see the advantage. Seems like a much more intricate setup than the trusty old v-belt and pulleys

Re: Serpentine Setup
The water pump has to be a reverse rotation pump and be run by the "backside" or flat side of the belt to work correctly.

Re: Serpentine Setup
Also on the car one the a/c and the alt set a little lower and apart. The truck version is up and together. I made a new pulley bracket for my smog pump area idler pulley because I thought it looked empty. I have one off a 91 blazer given to me because neighbor found a powder coated and chrome one. I think they look clean
