67-68 and 69-72 hood release
Hey guys I need to double check a part. The truck I am working on is a 67/68 but I think the hood latch is the wrong year. The one I have has the release center on the latch? The one that I found in my parts box for my gmc has teh release pad off to the drivers side. Did 67-68 chevys every come with a centered release or was that only 69-72?
Thanks, Kevin LFD Inc. |

Re: 67-68 and 69-72 hood release
Rokcrln, 67-68 are center and 69 and 70 are center, The handle is longer and lower on a 67-68, where the 69-70 is shorter. Hope this helps.

Re: 67-68 and 69-72 hood release
So then what year is off to the drivers side? The one on my customers truck is centered but does not have enough throw to release the safty latch and I had to space down th ehood mount to even catch the main ball (yes I backed it off first) and this one is centered on his 68. The one I have for my 68 front end is off to the drivers side and works like a dream.
Thanks for any more info. Kevin LFD Inc. |

71/72 and probably the GMC's since it has a bar down the center of the grill.

Re: 67-68 and 69-72 hood release
Ok lets try this with pic's. What I have found (I think) out from looking at all mine and the one that I am working on as well as from your help is this.
Pic 1&2 are " low hump " 67-70 chevy pic 3&4 are "high hump" 67-? GMC 67-70 Chevy are center pull. 67-70 GMC are side pull. 67-68 chevy are high hump. 69-70 chevy are low hump. 67-? GMC are high hump. 71-72 Chevy are low hump & slightly a side pull. So this is what I am thinking is the problem with the one I am working on. It is a Low hump and should be a high hump. I have had to shim the hood latch down 1/4" to get it to latch but the safty latch will not come un-done by the handle. Then on mine (the ugly one) the high hump it works perfect. Almost forgot another problem with the nice looking one is the grill brace will not fully bolt in. The top of the brace has 2 bolt holes and only the front one lines up. Does this sound right? Re: 67-68 and 69-72 hood release
Rokcrln see if this pic helps, the 3 on the top are 67-68 chevys and the bottom one is a 69-70. It shows the difference in the handles and as you stated low hump and high hump. Yah by your photos, I am guessing the top one is your problem, looks like a 69-72 chevy one. Hope the photo helps.
