WTB antifreeze overflow cap

Anyone have one of the caps laying around? Doesn't need to be NOS, can be used. Just not broken.

Can't add it pic for some reason, but it's the off white cap that belongs to the bottle.

Re: WTB antifreeze overflow cap

Keep looking, you'll find it. Still waiting for someone to explain why the "original" brackets have two appearances. One is square with the bottle, the other slopes down against the bottle. The bands appear to be the same width, and I believe they take the same bottle, though I have seen three different caps claimed to be original. Four if you count font size, which happens to be on the white cap you're seeking. Not sure there's a connection between brackets and caps.

Maybe both brackets were original. Just looking for confirmation, so I can sleep nights.

It would also be interesting to see what the military trucks had. Those were original, right to the SPID.

Yea you're right about the 2 appearances. Mine has the slope against the bottle . I haven't seen the other caps, the one I pictured is what I've always seen as belonging to the bottle. I'm curious about the others now, and yea the military truck and spid would clear it up.

Tom

Here's one with a VERY cool cap. See post 20: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=546610

Here's what you're looking for. See post 7: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=596392

Here's one that's claimed to be original. These are GM , but I doubt these were on the original bottles. Probably more like 1976 or about. Not sure an adequate replacement for your bottle. http://www.ebay.com/itm/NOS-RADIATOR...13b572&vxp=mtr

Another question is, when did they start putting these on Chevys? And were the original parts the same for all years, say 67-72?

Re: WTB antifreeze overflow cap

From what I've gathered they were dealer add ons, not actual off the production line items, on 99% of our trucks. And I've only ever seen them in 71 or 72s. I've never seen them any earlier, not saying they're not their, just never found one. I found my bottle and bracket in a 72 suburban in Maryland at a junkyard with special k (Tim)one time.

That third cap you posted does not fit the bottle....don't ask how I know haha

You are correct, they were a dealer add on. But they were production, on at least some government issued. These are supported by the SPID, which can be found on this website. I suspect GM left it up to the dealers to save some bucks, and due to the various climates. They were added to government vehicles because the dealer was bypassed. That's speculation on my part, but seems to make sense.

Ha ha haaaaaaaaaa....Good to know the black cap is a quack.
