Would kinked fuel line cause idle problem?

I MAY have figured out my strange rough idle problem. I noticed that the line going from my PUMP to the CARB, is kinked...actually, I kinked it, haha. I tried to give it a 90º bend, by hand...never really thought that it'd hurt anything, until I read another post on here about kinked fuel line causing bad idle. So, I'm gonna just put a barb fitting on the pump, and run rubber hose up to the carb. Anyone done this?

I agree with Riptide. get a braided line from pump to carb. I did this and looks much better and alot easier to manuever.

Aww gotcha. Ok, Steel Braided is $15. I'm gonna try rubber first, to SEE if it'll cure my idle problem. If it does, then I'll get the steel braided.

Summit has a kit to run from your pump to the carb that you have. Just make sure to run a filter in it as well.

yeah, for $40. I already have the fittings and filter, just need the hose.

a kinked fuel line wouldnt cause idle problems before it caused high load problems...

Tim, have you ever run out of gas? the truck dies because of lack of fuel. when you restrict the fuel flow, the same thing happens, but not enough to kill the truck.

I just looked at a truck that had the same issue.

The guy didn't even notice it.

Was kinked around a bracket.......almost enough to completely cut off the duel supply....and it was a metal line.

He couldn't figure out why it was hard to start and ran rough....

Fixed the kink..no change. STILL runs rich and like crap. I'm gonna swap back the primary jets (got a #66 in there now, gonna go back to stock #64) and HOPEFULLY that'll do the trick.

what seems to be the problem with your carb anyways? And how are you so sure that its the carb thats causing problems?

I saw you say something about rough idle.. primary jets have nothing to do with the idling of your truck.. What kind of carb? quadrajet I assume.. You check for leaky throttle shafts? leaky well plugs? How long since the carb's been gone thru? etc etc

Yes, the truck has a "twitch" at idle, but it's not all the time. Also, the carb is a Holley 4160. I recently cleaned it and put new fuel bowl gaskets. I bought it 5 years ago though...Amazingly, Holley doesn't even PRODUCE the carb anymore (Model #80460) It was SUPPOSED to be the CARB legal version 4bbl for 74-78 Chevy Trucks originally equipped with a 4bbl carb.

Just an idea but check your fuel float levels. With that new gasket you installed the floats may have been moved up or down to where they're not set right.
