Axel ?

Anyone know if a 6 lug axel will work in place of a 5 lug,my truck has a 6 lug rear 5 up front.I have a spare 5 lug rear and would like to just switch out if possible.Both rears are 12 bolt posi.

Depends on what year model rear and if it is leaf or coil?

are you talking about switching axles or the whole rear end? The axles will switch assuming the length is the same.....

measure from backing plate to backing plate, there are some threads here about doing the swap. Click on the search button up top and type "axle swap" or something along those lines and you will find all the info you could ever need. I'm gettin' ready to do the same thing, I know the info is there, you just gotta look a little

If you have a 67 - 69, then you can not do it. If you have an early 70, you can't... but somewhere in the middle of 70, they went to a wider axle housing, and the 5 lug shafts will slide right in.

I used to have a parts truck that had a 5 lug rear and a 6 lug front. They did the whole axle swap because they wanted to rob the truck of it's factory limited slip diff.
