List of Frame Bolts?
Does anyone have a list of all the frame bolts probably grade 8 that would mount to all the cross members, cross member pieces/mounts to the frame, transfer case member, side transfer case mount, tranny, etc? Basically, any grade 8 bolt that would go through the frame and/or a cross member, a count of how many would be helpful as well.
Let me know how I can be more descriptive to get the answer I am looking for. I have a 1971 K20 4x4 LWB with SMB 350, TH350, NP205, Dana 44, Eaton in Rear. This would be very helpful. Thank you! Rex |

Re: List of Frame Bolts?
LMC lists a Frame Hardware Kit, p/n 30-1146. Never used it so can't comment on it, but it's listed as grade 8.

Re: List of Frame Bolts?
dont know how many is needed , but I do know tractor supply sells grade 8 bolts by the pound, and is lot cheeper then most places that sell grade 8 bolts by price per each bolt, So if you are close to a Tractor supply store I would go there

They do not supply the 7/16 in grade 8 down here in north dallas. I have a couple more hardware stores here but more expensive than 3.99 a pound. |

Re: List of Frame Bolts?
7/16 20 NF is fine thread. 7/16 14 NC is what you need. Do not use a flat washer under the lock washer and hex nut. You want the lock washer to bite into the part and nut.

Or do what I did and skip the washer all together and use flange bolts and flange prevailing torque nuts(metal lock). I ordered mine from bolt depot. Your best bet on actually getting an accurate list of bolts needed is to count whatever you plan on changing and make up a list, or just order a bunch of the common sizes and keep the extras and put in your bolt bin. A bunch of 3/8 and 7/16 will get you along way, atleast it did on my c10, maybe a K20 has less 3/8, never worked on a K20. |

Re: List of Frame Bolts?
I have to ask why are you bolting your frame together ?
Tractor supply doesn't carry 7/16 grade 8 hardware . If your bolting the frame back together don't pinch pennies buy the best available . |

Yes. I agree not to trim the budget here. I just want to make sure I get the right bolts. What are the best brand / quality bolts. All I would think to get is the grade 8 and didn't matter the brand. Just yellow zinc . |

Re: List of Frame Bolts?
Are you cutting all the rivets out to replace with bolts? Most of the pieces you described, like cross members, are rivets to the frame from the factory.

Re: List of Frame Bolts?
Just curious why? Unless there were serious rust issues?

Re: List of Frame Bolts?
Use red loctite instead of lock washers on the frame -- lock washers are actually detrimental contrary to popular belief (according to NASA, there's a thread on here somewhere with a whitepaper link).

Re: List of Frame Bolts?
You will want to use a bolt that is not threaded all the way to the head. It should be a very snug fit. If you don't, it will be difficult to keep aligned.
