Aux tank question.
I have a factory auxiliary fuel tank on my 72 C-20 (option #NL2). I ran my truck out of gas yesterday (right now the cab tank is out and will be replaced) and when i got to the gas station I could only get 13 gallons in. From what I've read, I thought that all factory aux tanks were 19 gallons. Can anybody who has a factory tank tell me how much their tank will hold? Thanks!

When I had my auxiliary tank out and apart I noticed the pick-up tube starts near the bottom of the tank and comes out the top. If your tube is short, not reaching the bottom of the tank, you may have 6 gallons left in there when it "runs out".
I don't think you want that tube all the way to the bottom as that is where 33 years of crap has collected.

BTW, does anybody know where to get a sender for the aux tank if it turns out the one I have is bad?

The previous owner used it by filling it to the top and driving down the road until the truck sputtered then flipped over to the seat tank with the gauge. I wanted a fuel gauge. JC Whitney sells one with a sender that works ok for me. It set me back approximately $25. I had to make another hole in the top of the tank for the sender. I mounted the gauge that came it it knee-knocker style under the ignition switch, next to a tranny temp gauge.

I had a seperate pick-up brazed into the tank and went with an aftermarket sending unit with a GM ohm range that fit into the original hole. Had to drill new holes though as the mounting pattern was differant. Shop that did the pick-up screwed up though. Pick-up is not long enough. I only have 121/2 - 13 gal useable fuel load.
