Radiator for Manual Transmission question - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

My 1971 C10 has a leak in the core tubes. I have been hunting around for a replacement as a re-core is around the $350 mark. I seem to find tons of radiators listed for the automatics, but few if any for the M/T. It would seem to me I could use the one for the automatic and just put in a couple of plugs for the trans coolers but not sure. Anyone have any input as the new rads I found that are for the manual transmissions are even more expensive than a re-core. Any ideas out there or recommendations?

I had a stock 4 ROW CORE brass radiator for auto trans in my '69 C10 with a TREMEC 5 speed manual that I swapped in place of a Turbo 400. Just disconnected the trans cooler lines and used it with no issues.

I'm now using this 2 ROW CORE, and it fit perfect.
http://www.speedcooling.com/1967_197..._Radiator.html, with a TREMEC 6 speed, I didn't even bother to plug the lines for the transmission cooler. It's a really nice radiator and not too expensive.

Yes you can use the auto rad and just cap the trans cooler to keep dirt out of the cooler in case you decide to go automatic later. $350.00 is a good deal, I just paid $538.00 for a recore on a 4 core rad.

Thanks for the info guys. I suspected that is what I would end up finding out. I talked to Jegs today as I was able to get a "scratch and dent" Champion aluminum replacement for the wife's '71 F250 for $140 a few months ago. Best case was $180. I may have to go along with that. I'll keep the original for just in case.

No problem with using a auto radiator in a standard. This is not a dig at anyone but the proper terminology is row not core.

no problem,, I have always said four core instead of four row core must be a Michigan thing or up bringing..
