200r Tranny ?
I have a 700r4 waiting in the wings to go into my lwb. I have to get the drive shaft shortened 3". Now I have a chance to get a 200r with 55,000 miles on it for $150 and then I wouldn't have to do the drive shaft because they are the same length as the 350 turbo. What should I do? Opinions needed......

Re: 200r Tranny ?
200 definately has the better gear spread....BUT I think in stock form the 700 is a little stouter than the 200. What did the 200 come out of?
Given the choice between a built 200 or 700, I would choose the 200.

Re: 200r Tranny ?
I know the 700 has a stouter 1st gear, but how often will I need that. I've heard that you can get some good 200's that are supposed to be better than the 700's. Don't know how true this is. This was supposed to have came out of a 87 Monte.....I'm waiting for another reply from the guy as to where he's located from me. He acts hungry 'cause he was selling both the 305 and trans together, but said he'd split them up, "when am I coming down to get it". Think I'll see if he takes $100.

Re: 200r Tranny ?
The guys that build those 80's Buick Grand Nationals with turbo 3.8's pretty much use them exclusively. I have seen 9 seconds GN's with 200R's.

Re: 200r Tranny ?
i would go 2004r (i use www.fbperformance.com to build my stuff)
but i wouldnt go thru the work of installing either the 2004r or the 700r4 without having it built to take the abuse of highspeed heavy load touring

Re: 200r Tranny ?
Don't mean to change the subject, but I remember when Art Carr was also just into Chrysler trannys. I remember back in the early 70's, he was making what he called "Clutch Flite" tranny. They were 727 trans with the bell housing cut off, and a clutch setup made. I wanted one of those so bad, but, $500 back then was a lot of money.

Re: 200r Tranny ?
I need a 200r4! I cant afford 1000 dollers to build either one of my 700 and then have the shaft shortened etc... Buick gn's had the boost valve and servos already installed I believe so they are stronger than the monte, caprice etc 200's.
