Best place for a narrowed rear end??

So now that the frame is C-notched, powdercoated and with the dropped spindles and coils installed, it's time to rethink the rearend situation. I was going to do like a few others I have seen and just run a monster backspacing to make an 18.5 wide tire fit with the expanded wheel tubs, but now am thinking I should just go ahead and bit the bullet and get a narrowed rear end. Anyone have any suggestions on where and what to buy? It's getting a 10.5:1 396 with Merlin oval heads and a 177 mini blower, so it's going to be getting abused.........

Re: Best place for a narrowed rear end??

laplander,
We have a guy out here called the Dutchman that strictly does nothing but ford 9's, he narrows them and just about anything you want within your $$$$ range. I've heard nothing but good about him and I am going to give him some business when I do my 56 Chevy Short Step Bigwindow. I have been toying with the Idea of a 6 Liter with a Kenny Bell Super Charger on top so I get where your coming from.

Re: Best place for a narrowed rear end??

Actually you can just put one together yourself. The parts are all availible and you get exactly what you want. We sell the Alston 181016 rear housing for $399.00 we also sell the ones from Competion Engineering, but they are a little higher. Not trying to sell you anything but they are not hard to put together. just letting you know (if you don't already) that the parts are all there. We would just tack the all the parts on and take it to a good welder and it was not that expensive to weld.

I don't know where you are in NM, but there is a guy in Socorro, TX that does it. He can be found on the HAMB. Name of "Drive Em".
