Because, I thought it had something to do with back up lights ... also have a set of wires on a plug (brn, ylw, grn, lt grn) that looks like rear lights that does not go anywhere.

I believe that one goes from the firewall plug all the way back to the tail lites...

The back up light switch is actually located on the steering column (if it is an auto trans column) right before it enters the firewall (above the pedals).

Re: electic plug on trans

That switch indicates that the tranny is in high gear, and it was used by the TCS (Transmission Controlled Spark) system.

Re: electic plug on trans

I'm not sure what year you have, but mines a 1971 Cheyenne w/TH350 and the TCS switch is on the passenger side. To my knowledge they were always on the passenger side. I haven't seen any of the repair or reference books indicate a TCS switch on the Drivers side, but I'm only referencing my production year also.

Re: electic plug on trans

If it's a squarish plastic plug pointing straight up on the driver's side, it's for a lockup converter, meaning you have a TH350C trans.

Re: electic plug on trans

The trans is actually later model than your truck. A lockup TH350 can actually be run disconnected, unlike some other lockup trans. I've run them unplugged for years. Don't worry about it.
