Ecoboost swap how hard would it be?
Since I can't find any low mileage 6.0 or 6.2 engines in my area I was considering doing a ecoboost swap in my truck would it be a hard swap or should I just go with a high mileage engine feedback is greatly appreciated

Re: Ecoboost swap how hard would it be?
Putting a Ford engine in a Chevy is likely to ruffle some feathers.
The hard point connections are just the motor mounts. I don't know if anyone makes a cradle for a C-10 to do this. You will likely have to have the mounts custom fabricated. Are you going to use a Chevy or Ford trans? It's easier to just use a tranny that was made to work with the engine you're using. If you go Ford, again you'll likely have to custom fab a transmission cross member. All of the "soft point" connections are pretty easy. Fuel lines, trans linkage, carb linkage, radiator hoses, etc... I think if it was me... I might be tempted to try a Chevy I6 (250, 292) with a turbo, but I don't recall seeing a lot of these on the forums here. There are different ecoboost engines, some are 4's some are sixes... so it depends if you're going 2.0L or 3.5L (those are the two I've worked on). I believe there is a 2.7 and even a 3 cylinder version. Is there any reason you specifically want to go 6.0 or 6.2? Small blocks can be found just about anywhere, usually at a reasonable price. And you can build them to blow the doors off of any ecoboost.

Re: Ecoboost swap how hard would it be?
I just don't wanna do the generic 5.3 swap in my truck if I had the cash I'd do a duramax swap but I'd really like to go with a 6 speed transmission with whatever engine I use so preferably something a little different than what everyone else goes with

How low mileage, are you looking for and for what price. The salvage yards in my area can get them, you just have to want to pay their price. Mileage is a small factor on these engines, anyways. Why an ecoboost?

Re: Ecoboost swap how hard would it be?
Does the truck have an engine now? The engines that came in these are actually very good engines. Swapping to newfangled complicated stuff is cool if that's what you're into. But, it's not like these trucks "have to" have the engines swapped... which is what it seems so many think by what they say and do. And you know the LS engines have their own failures

Re: Ecoboost swap how hard would it be?
I'm looking for engines under 75k miles and the reason for the ecoboost it'd be different and I've owned one and I loved it it was way faster and more fuel efficient than my supercharged 5.3

If it were me (I have a ly6 6.0 with a 6 speed auto in my 70) and I wanted something different I would go with a 5.3 with a single or twin turbos. This should be much easier and cheaper than an economy boost. A 5.3 and a 6.0 look exactly the same siting in the truck. It's not like a BBC vs SBC. 5.3 with the right cam heads tune and exhaust should put you back in your seat and be extremely reliable. Just my .02

Re: Ecoboost swap how hard would it be?
If you don't want a generic 5.3 you could always slap a turbo on one... Probably much easier to boost the Ls than put the F*rd stuff in there. There is a lot of aftermarket support for the Ls swap. Not any I'm sure for the other.

Re: Ecoboost swap how hard would it be?
sure you could but it will not be drop in. you will have to fab the motor mounts and have the harness reworked to a stand alone then have the pcm reflashed. on top of all that I doubt ecoboost 6's are any more common than a low mileage 6.0. Cadillac is going to start using a twin turbo v6 in some of their cars next year and the Camaro is getting a turbo 4 cyl. or how about a Mercedes or bmw v8? I've always thought a bmw v8 with individual throttle bodies would be different and cool in a 67-72

Search colonel mustard on Instagram or Facebook. It's an f100 but they did a whole Eco boost swap and it's pretty sick.

Re: Ecoboost swap how hard would it be?
You might want to get a f100 and jump on a different forum. Sorry, that was rude. It would be cool to see what you come up with. The 3.5 Eco is damn impressive!

What's your budget look like? Lsx4u has fresh rbuilt 6.0 engines wired and ready to go for I think like 4500. Of course no transmission

Re: Ecoboost swap how hard would it be?
If you want the unique factor of an Ecoboost more than you want a 6.0 or 6.2, then do it, but if not, I'd just get a 6.0 and not even worry about mileage.
I have a 5.3 with 207k miles and a LS1 with 170k. Both run great and haven't given me any problems. I have 2 6.0s swapped into other cars with no idea what the mileage is. If compression is good and bearing clearances are within spec, then mileage doesn't matter. Anything can break down, but the LS engines without DOD and VVT usually last a long time with no problems. I'm putting a turbo 5.3 in my 54 GMC. It's nice to say you have a 6.0, but 5.3s are cheap, can make a ton of power with boost, and if you blow it up, you're out $400 for a used long block.

Re: Ecoboost swap how hard would it be?
I just noticed you said you want a 6 speed. I'd be looking for a complete LS1/2/3 pull out with t56. Unless you come across a good deal on a t56, you probably won't be much better off buying the engine and trans separate.
A donor vehicle would be even better. In 2010 I bought a wrecked 00 6 speed TA with 55k miles for $2800. That's less than the engine and trans would cost me and I parted out the rest and got some money back. That was an exceptional deal, but you might find a donor at a good price.

Re: Ecoboost swap how hard would it be?
If you dont want generic , go with a w motor , someone on here has a truck with one , they look awesome , put ez efi for reliability and drivability , a 348 or 409 , and a 6l80 with a padel shifter ,, that would be different
If you had a smashed ford , and could body swap your c10 that would be a cool truck and would drive well , it wold be easier that moveing all the stuff over to your chevy , plus you ger the frame a suspension

I found a 6.2 out of a escalade with 8k miles on it with the 6l90e transmission for 6,000 that's including dirty dingo sliding motor mounts

Re: Ecoboost swap how hard would it be?
If you want to be really different put a stock 250 I6 in it. Most people will likely have no clue what it is. A T5 easily swaps behind it. For likely less than a grand you can have a great running motor with a 5 spd that will likely only get a mpg or two less than the 3-6K set up you want to go with.
(little humor about every truck out there being swapped to LS).

Think about snatching a 4.3 out of an S10 or get a new one from GMPP with a CVT trans on the back. Voila', 35 MPG. and no "found on road dead" problems. |

Re: Ecoboost swap how hard would it be?
I had a guy by my shop today has a Tahoe with 127 thousand miles but it has 12 thousand hours! That is like 450 miles. It had been a border patrol unit and must have run all day and night from new. I'm driving a Z71 that I just built, it rolled over 222 thousand today on the way to work and it has 6500 hours.By the way I sold that guy a 70 thousand mile motor for 500 bucks.

Re: Ecoboost swap how hard would it be?
I saw in the Hot Rod mag the little turbo 4 cylinder put in the Nova. Look here http://www.hotrod.com/events/coverag...wer-tour-2015/
I am not sure how well they would do in a heavy truck. But if I had the cash as I am sure it is super pricey I would look at it for my Camaro project. I am running a turbo 5.3 6 speed. It is fun and I really like the turbo aspect with a smaller motor you can get the best of both worlds. David
