matching hood

Hope this is ok to post but is there any good source for 47-53 hoods for a half ton chevy pickup? Im trying to get a hood that matches the body color on this patina. Its not black but very dark blue? I can grab some pictures but the hood i have looks odd. I know it is a longshot but trying to get one that is closer in original color to my body. thanks for any help. GP

Re: matching hood

Well I for one will be so happy when this "patina" fad runs it's course but the only way you are going to find a hood that has the color and fade or paint destruction you are hunting for is get off the computer and go out and look for one.

Blue was probably the second most popular color next to green which was "the" color and there are a lot of 1/2, 3/4 and 1 ton trucks still around with original but faded out paint on the hoods. I'd just do the "lets go for a ride" thing on days off and get off the normal beaten paths and check old wrecking yards and check the little Nickle papers or Craigslist for AD truck parts within a reasonable driving distance. You might have to drive a couple hundred miles one way to find the one you want but I dang sure would not buy one and have it shipped expecting it to match what I want to match.

There are some custom painters who can paint the "fake patina" good enough to match what you have but I'd think it would cost you close to a thousand bucks to have the hood done by the guys who do the best job.

Re: matching hood

I'm thinking paint it the original color then put it up on the roof of the garage for 50 years and then take it and bolt it on.

What is wrong with the hood on the truck right now?

Re: matching hood

I have a buddy that can photograph your existing finish and turn it into a vinyl wrap for your hood.
I imagine it will cost you plenty of $$$.
