Returning to the site.

New guy. Checking things out.Used to have a 71 Suburban, but just bought a 72 Cheyenne Super. Love the truck, but I need to tow with it and it has a roll pan instead of a bumper. How hard are step bumpers to find and how hard is the roll pan to remove?

Re: Returning to the site.

Bumpers not that hard to come by, but think you are heading the wrong way.

Regardless of what you do for a bumper, tow with a receiver hitch. Spreads the load better and allows you to level your trailers with various size ball mounts. By a Class IV or V with 2" receiver. Some Class V have 2 1/2" and ball mounts are harder to find. And more expensive!

I would ditch the roll pan as well since I just don't like them, but that's just personal preference.

Yeah, wasn't going to tow with the bumper, but want to get that to lose the roll pan, before I put a reciever on it. Thanks for the info. Hoping I can find someone that wants to trade roll pan for bumper.

You want the best weight distribution? Get a fifth-wheel ball.

5th wheel uses a kingpin arrangement and not a ball like a gooseneck. Working off the assumption he needs a bumper pull setup for his trailer and not wanting to buy a new trailer, I think receiver hitch is the answer to his question. He did ask about bumpers.

Re: Returning to the site.

probably hard to find a trade partner for that (i.e someone that has the bumper you want AND wants a roll pan...) However, if u become a member, you will be able to post the roll pan and sell it on the parts board. That is also your best bet for finding the bumper you're looking for. Here's a link: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/f...ysprune=30&f=8

Oops - just noticed you're returning, sorry, you're probably already well aware of the parts board.

Hard to find a trade partner?

I'm interested in a roll pan. I absolutely hate my bumper. I don't need a bumper since I don't haul, let alone drive my truck on the streets.

Not sure if this picture thing will work. I can't remember if I've ever posted a picture before, but if you are interested, I live in Bend, OR not Kuna, Id anymore.

I guess the million dollar question is, Are you interested?

It bolts straight to the chassis. I have the same bumper on my other heavy half ton chevy 2wd. I've towed 14-18 foot car trailers with a 72 chevy on it, 75 dodge dart sport, and a 72 ford pickup. My truck/bumper had no problem at all towing it all.

This bumper even has the connector thing for trailer light. Has some wiring (I think) too.

Sorry for the slow reply...Christmas and family and work took over. I would be interested, Low&Slow. I'm not sure how it would work logistically, but I do go to Portland occasionally. Maybe I can put something here when I will be down that way and we could meet up. Either I forgot how or I'm not able to PM, so let me know what you think.
