what years tailgate will work

will a 79 tailgate fit on a 72 bed or is there a difference >?

I swear I've seen post-72 tailgates on the 67-72 trucks. Different for sure and not sure if it just bolted on or what it would take.

Im not 100% sure, but I dont think so. Even if it did, the lines are completely different and wont look good at all. Even a repop gate is only $200 bucks.
