Rearend Gear
Does anybody know what rearend gear came in a 69 1/2 ton 3-speed manual?

I think 3.73 was standard equipment and the 3.07 and 4.11 were optional thru '71.

no 3.42 ever offered.
If nothing is listed on the SPID, then a 3.73 was standard, and is assumed. 3.07 was avalible, as was 4.11, not sure if they were both avalible with the 3 speed, nor what ever engine you have. (there were some limitations) Your best bet would be to remove the cover and count the teeth on the 2 gears, divide one into the other, and then refill with new oil. Old oil doesn't offer much protection. |

The Truck Data Book I have for 1969 says 3.73 was standard on C10s,but that doesn't mean that's what you have.

My 72 was an original "3 on the tree" 350 truck and the rear was a 3.73.

if it has a 3 speed, and nothing was optioned, then the 3.37 was standard.
if it has a 4 speed, or a TH350/TH400, then you got a 3.07, unless otherwise optioned. |

My 68 3 on the tree came standard with a 3.73

I have a crossmember and rearend from a 72 that I was going to swap with my truck, and the rearend has 3:08 rearend. I was wanting the 3:08 for better 60-65 mph driving. The truck is awful with the gear it has, but I was thinking a higher gear would be nice. I guess what I am trying to figure out is which gear should I go with? I do intent on switching to a 700r4 in a year or so and I think I would be happier with the 3:73 when that day comes. What do you guys think? Keith |

I think you`ll be happy with the 3.08s & o/d as long as you have a couple horses under the hood.That combo is popular.

with an overdrive I would recomend the 3.73... not the 3.07. Seen too many ppl claim a drop in MPG.

i am not sure what my truck has ( i think 3:73 ) and when in drive with my th350 it seemed like it needed another gear
but i have now a 700r4 tranny and i want more gear i think i need 4:11 |
