People who have aluminum radiator w/ electric fans

What have you used? Brands? fitment?

I am looking for a nice aluminum replacement radiator that will provide better cooling while adding electric fans, any links? prices? opinions?

Re: People who have aluminum radiator w/ electric fans

i got a nice 3 core radiator for 180 bucks off ebay... mrradiatorguy or something like that. I searched around for a while, found a package deal with 2 12 inch fans and a temp controller for 65 bucks. It works GREAT!!! I love it. Please also note that it's working great on a big block.

OK, I like it.

Questions:
What size motor are you running with that radiator? Towing?

2 or 3 row Radiator?

When driving, are you using or NOT using the electric fans to cool?

Would like to hear some results of the uses of these as I am looking to purchase one for my truck.

THX!

I have that same fan setup in mine and it works perfect. One fan comes on at 195 and the second comes on at 200. I tow a 4000 lb boat in 100 degree temps and it has never gone over 210 since I put the aluminum radiator and fans. The motor is a fuel injected 383 T400 with GV OD 410 gears and 35 in tires.

PowerPro, what shroud are you using with the fan? Do you have any pictures of the fan and radiator installed?

Re: People who have aluminum radiator w/ electric fans

The fans provide their own shroud and all the mounting materials are provided in the kit. If you look over on the far side of the radiator, you can see where i put the thermostat by the radiator inlet. BTW, i highly recommend that you put the fans on BEFORE you install the radiator. It will make the project a million times easier.

If you have further questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Re: People who have aluminum radiator w/ electric fans

Oh and for those of u who are going to ask, i know that's a wierd radiator hose, but it was orriginally chosen to keep the hose away from the stock mechanical fan and it works well at the moment, so i haven't swapped it out. The truck is definitely a work in progress, but the wife wants me to keep it in running condition while i work on it, so... there's only so much i can do under the hood... She's supportive of me having the truck and working on it, so I'm not going to complain about the conditions...

The taped up fittings are for a trans cooler, but i already have one set up. Eventually, i'll be using those ports for an oil cooler. The tape is just to keep out dirt in the meantime.

Re: People who have aluminum radiator w/ electric fans

I would recommend buying electric fans that include a shroud that covers the entire radiator core like the one big_al_71 has or the entropy units or the ones that WES at Classic Heartbeat sells. Otherwise, you are wasting core area and may experience reduced cooling efficiency. It happened to me and I built a larger custom shroud to cure my heating issues.

The same amount of air is going to flow through the fan whether you put a big shroud around it or not. Putting a big shroud around the fan will only reduce the velocity of the air flowing through the radiator (same amount of air, bigger space). The faster the air flows through, the better the cooling. It's all going to mix in the tank on the other side of the radiator anyway, so the TWO tubes that aren't getting air flow aren't really an issue... The main thing u need to look for is high CFM fans.

Only true when the vehicle is in motion. My comment applies when vehicle is stopped. When the vehicle is stopped the only air going through the core is what the fan pulls through it and any area of the core not covered by the shroud will not have air flowing through it. It is possible to experience increased temps when stopped. Why is it that all oem applications include a shroud that covers the entire core area? I speak from experience. I had both configurations and the larger shroud cured my overheating problem when the vehicle was not moving.

X2 You might also research some kind of control module to start the fans. When dual fans come on it is a pretty good shock to the electrical system powering them. I am aware of two modules that will " SOFT START " the fans. Meaning that when they are told to turn on, the module will ramp up the voltage gently , so as not to create a big load all at once to the wiring
Spal- Usa
Ron Francis wire works

Re: People who have aluminum radiator w/ electric fans

Im really curious to what exact fan from flex a lite that is, they have like 3 or 4 different models of dual fans, and it looks like the fan was meant for the rad the way is attached with the brackets. haysonj Do you have the same brackets on your fan??

The fan is the universal one at Jegs It is 27X17 with 13 inch fans. I made my own brackets as the brackets it came with I didn't like.
