harmonic balancer change?

I'm switching from manual trans to automatic. Can I still use the same harmonic balancer or does it require a different one? Thanks

Re: harmonic balancer change?

The only time a balancer change is required is when you change the balance Seriously, not required as long as you match the flywheel to the flexplate - i.e. if the flywheel was external balance then the flexplate must be as well.

Re: harmonic balancer change?

I'm not sure I understand. Does that just mean I have to have the same number of teeth on both?

Re: harmonic balancer change?

No, engines are balanced, either externally or internally. Look on your flywheel, if it has a weight on it, then it's external if not then it's internal. Your new flexplate also needs to match your old flywhell in balance and teeth (unless you want to buy a different starter).

Re: harmonic balancer change?

Unless you have a 400 sbc or a 383 stroker, you will just use the regular flexplate. As said above, just make sure you have the same tooth count as your flywheel has.
