Is this a good buy?

I have found this 71 chevy long bed. I havent actually seen it in person yet. I talked to the guy and he said it has rust but he didnt say where. It has a 350 with a automatic trans power steering and ac!! Ive got him down to $600 cash. All im buying it for is the motor, trans and steering colum and maybe a few other misc parts. So i would probably just pull off everything i need and then part out the rest. What do you guys think?

Not going to get much better of a deal that $600 for a truck with an engine. Just make sure it is a 350 for sure. Looks original but you never know.

Re: Is this a good buy?

If the doors are real good, that colud bet you back close to $300. Almost any transmission shop will give you $100 for a th350 core. With a very nice tailgate, that alone could get your money back.

Re: Is this a good buy?

Alright thanks man. Do you know of way to tell if it is actually a 350? He said it runs great, no smoke, no knock and no miss.

Also what will an ac cab like this bring if i decide to resell the cab?

$300-$1500 depening on the rust. It would have to be very nice to bring $1500.

The best way to see if it is a 350 is to get the casting #'s off the back of the block.

Another way, Is to get the suffix code off the pad on front of the block. Then I or someone better than me could look it up. I will try to find some pics of where these # are......Jason
