Just got cab back from being blasted
Guy only charged $150 to blast the whole cab. Now I can see what was done by the PO.

Re: Just got cab back from being blasted
That looks like a nice cab, I should really have this done to mine, I am just scared of what I will find. So far, finding it in small doses has been painful enough!
Good start though, pillares, drip rails, rockers etc.. All look really nice.

Re: Just got cab back from being blasted
Looks very nice!
I love freshly-blasted bodies, no mysteries left. I had one chemically stripped and e-coated once, which is even nicer, but takes a lot longer and is more expensive. My current truck I'm going to have blasted as well. I notice you left the pedal box in. I'd be a little worried about blasting media getting into the pedal bushings and so on and giving you a "gritty" pedal. Or will you be taking it out anyway?

Re: Just got cab back from being blasted
Hey! If he took it out, how was he supposed to stop on the way to the Blaster?

Re: Just got cab back from being blasted
It looks to be just a fine sand that they used. Didn't warp any thing. It cost me over $150 to blast my own frame. Wish I would have checked on prices sooner.

Re: Just got cab back from being blasted
Looks great. And that was a good price. I have done all my own blasting, with fine sand and had great results, but if I did it for someone else I would charge about a million dollars, as it is a nasty job.

Re: Just got cab back from being blasted
I did the frame myself and it was a real pain in the butt. It cost me over $150 in materials.

Re: Just got cab back from being blasted
It looks like the cab corners were badly done and the floor will need some reworking, the metal work was poor at best.
I would recommend test fitting the entire front clip and doors and see how everything lines up, check all tollerances for fit and fair on the doors, fenders, and hood alignment before you start repairing the cab because it can reveal problems with the geometry of the cab. As an example if your fenders have to be Max forward to clear the front edge of the door and your door has to be max forward to clear the door jam there is a serious problem with fit and fair. GM used wide tollerances from the factory so there would be plenty of adjustment available in some cases up to 3/4th of an inch, just make sure the PO didnt screw it up and let the fit and fair slip when he repaired the floor, inner/outter Rockers and cab corners. I would quadruple check the geometry to make sure its ok before you believe it. |

Re: Just got cab back from being blasted
I think you got a great deal with the blasting.they did a good job.
now go get some sealer before it starts rusting! i would never use a complete cab corner patch like that unless it was needed. (only time I've seen full corners used was on a $4500 no rust pa. truck and when i looked under it the rusty corners were still there and the new corners were screwed and rivited on over the rusty one) Its awesome that your starting with a clean slate you should have a great outcome.
