Idle comensator for a/c trucks?

In my vintage air intructions it doesn't say anything about using an idle compensator, but should i hook it up anyway?

I put Vintage air on my 72 and when it cuts the compressor on it would bog the engine down. Made a junkyard compensator and it works great. I think you will need the compensator.

I would say you need the compensator. I just got my ac working on the 71 and the engine goes from 700 rpms down to 500 and it bogs.

Not to hijack but hoping you or someone can help here. Do you or anyone have pictures of how the compensator attaches to carb? Is the wire part of the ac harness, engine harness, or is it a stand alone wire? If standalone, where does it go through firewall? Pictures may help.

Do you have a fan clutch or a direct drive fan? That makes a big difference. Also what size of engine? I put a vintage air unit on my 72 and the engine doesn't pull down at all when the compressor engages. It still freezes me out.

Have fan clutch, 350 basically stock with an edelbrock intake and carb, might try it without, and if i need it's only a couple screws to install it

Gator, what did you use for a power lead for the compensator? Did you just tap into the compressor clutch power wire?
