Crate Engine?
I am starting to get parts together to rebuild my 70 GMC S/B this winter. I would like to put in a GM small block crate motor.
Any suggestions on a good source? Thanks

Re: Crate Engine?
Get your best "advertised" price off the net and give Summit Racing a call. They beat the best deal I could find, gave free shipping, and had it in stock. It's really hard to beat a GM crate motor from Summit racing.

Re: Crate Engine?
lots of LOCAL GM dealers will give you a very fair price on thier crate engines in comparison to advertised natiol places and they dont charge you shipping costs plus many have them instock on the showroom floor available for sameday delivery

Re: Crate Engine?
I just wish the GM crate motors weren't built in Mexico.Sometimes GM just doesn't get it,we love Chevy's because they are part of AMERICA!

Re: Crate Engine?
If you give us a model number we can quote you a price. Any company can beat Jegs or Summit. Why do they have to price match?

Re: Crate Engine?
Thanks everyone,
The truck currently has a 396 big block that runs pretty good. Not sure how many miles are on it. I have thought about keeping it and finding someone to rebuild it that I can trust. Most things I can do myself but have not rebuilt an engine in a very long time. It would probably cost as much to rebuild this one as it would to buy a new small block. I have some time to decide what to do before I start tearing into it this winter. I want to have as much on hand and ready to go before I start the rebuild. Thanks again!

Re: Crate Engine?
Doubtful you can find a 396 in a crate. You could get a 502 or bigger.

Re: Crate Engine?
I'll take that 396 off your hands.
What are you wanting out the truck? A cruiser? Boulevard bruiser? In other words, do you want something stock or mild mannered or do you want something with lots of horsepower? Do you want to go small block or keep it big block?
